Traffic Alert - Temporary Road Closure

Newton Police are advising motorists that a sinkhole has been discovered in the northbound lane of Main Street (Rt. 206) at the intersection of Nelson Street.

 

The cause of the sinkhole has yet to be determined but the State Department of Transportation has been notified and is responding to the scene.

 

As a result, Newton Police officers are present at the scene and the northbound lane of Main Street (between Woodside Avenue and Nelson Street) has been temporarily closed as a safety precaution.

 

Detour(s) are in place and motorists should expect delays and plan accordingly until such time that the roadway is re-opened.
