On 04/30/2016 at 9:45p.m., an employee at Weis Markets reported that he was notified by a customer that a male placed an item in his vehicle that was on display outside of the store and did not pay for same. Ptl. Mahir Kaylani reviewed the store’s video surveillance and identified the male actor to be William M. Collins Sr. age 54, of Water Street, Newton. Further investigation revealed that Collins stole an umbrella stand valued at $29.99 and placed same in his van before leaving. On 05/03/2016 Collins was interviewed and admitted to the theft.
As a result, he was arrested and charged with the following:
N.J.S.2C:20-11b Shoplifting (Disorderly Persons)
On 05/03/2016 at 9:53 pm. Patrolman Thomas Tosti responded to the Rite Aid at 237 Spring Street for a report of a male shoplifter that fled on foot. Subsequent investigation again led to the arrest of William M. Collins Sr. age, 54, of Newton for concealing a 7 inch portable D.V.D. player valued at $79.99 and a 9 inch Tablet valued at $149.99. Before leaving the store with the items, an employee confronted Collins who gave the items back. Collins admitted that he placed the items between his jacket and shirt in an attempt to steal them from the store.
As a result, he was arrested and charged with the following before being released.
N.J.S. 2C:20-11b. Shoplifting (4th Degree)
