On Wednesday February 13, 2019, the Newton High School contacted the Newton Police Department to report suspicious activity that occurred on Monday, February 11, 2019 at approximately 3:00pm.

It was reported that a 15-year-old male student informed them that while he was walking on High Street (Rt. 94) in the area of Summit Avenue, he passed a red four-door pickup truck with a cap parked in a gravel parking area on the side of the roadway. The truck was occupied by a male subject in the driver’s seat that was described as a balding white male in his 20's. As the student walked by the truck, he saw the male in the truck holding a phone up in front of his face and heard him say "pretty face" multiple times. The male subject never exited the truck and did not appear to make direct contact with him. The vehicle remained parked.  There was concern that the male subject was video recording the student, though it was unclear as he may have been possibly talking on speaker phone.

The incident is under investigation by the Newton Police Department. We commend the student and school officials for reporting this suspicious activity so that it can be investigated further.  If anyone has information that may be related to this case, please contact the Newton Police Department at 973-383-2525 or can send a tip via text anonymously to “CRIMES” (274-637) with the keyword NEWTON.
