On 2/22/17 at 1:19a.m., Newton Police received a 9-1-1 phone call from a resident of Hillside Terrace who reported that a family member had just observed an unknown male attempting to burglarize a vehicle and the actor was presently being restrained.
Upon arrival, patrols encountered the complainant’s father to be restraining the male actor who was later identified to be Jason Corey, age 35, of Mill Street, Newton.
Subsequent investigation by the responding officers determined that another vehicle within the immediate neighborhood had been burglarized and a large amount of coins, assorted dollar bills, a pair of sunglasses, a wallet, a cellphone and a MP3 player were stolen from the interior of the unlocked vehicle.
As a result, Corey was arrested and lodged in the Sussex County Jail in default of bail after being charged with the following offenses:
N.J.S. 2C:20-3 Theft of Moveable Property
N.J.S. 2C:18-2 Burglary
Case pending court.
