Motor Vehicle Stop Leads to Drug Arrest

On Wednesday July 26, 2017 at 3:08 PM, Sgt. Michael Monaco conducted a motor vehicle stop on Halsted Street of a Dodge Intrepid for operating with a brake light out and an obstructed view of the windshield.

The vehicle was being operated by David Pezak, a 28-year-old resident of Belleville, NJ. 

Upon approaching the vehicle, Sgt. Monaco observed 4 bags of suspected heroin in the driver’s side door panel of the vehicle. The driver, Pezak, was then taken into custody.  Upon further investigation, Officers recovered another 93 bags of heroin, about 1 gram of heroin packaged in small containers, Xanax and Adderall pills and a set of brass metal knuckles.

After being charged with the following offenses, Pezak was lodged in the Sussex County Jail pending a hearing.

  • Possession of Hypodermic Needle 2C:36-6 [Disorderly persons offense]
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute CDS 2C:35-5 [3rd Degree Crime]
  • Possession of CDS 2C:35-10a(1) [3rd Degree Crime]
  • Possession of Prohibited Weapon 2C:39-3 [4th Degree Crime]
  • Failure to Maintain Lamps 39:3-66 [motor vehicle violation]
  • Possession of CDS in a Motor Vehicle 39:4-49.1 [motor vehicle violation]

 

Ptl. John Flanagan assisted with the investigation along with Sussex County Sheriff’s Detective Kieran McMorrow with his K-9 trained in narcotics detection.
