On 7/3/19 at 3:55a.m., Ptl. Donald Meisinger and Ptl. Steven Kneidl observed a male subject lying on the ground in the area of Lower Spring Street.  The male, identified as Michael Stafford, age 33 and currently homeless, indicated that he was resting and not in need of medical assistance.

A warrant check was conducted and subsequently Stafford was observed to be throwing an unknown item on the ground nearby.  Officers located the item and discovered it was a plastic baggie which contained 10 Clonazepam pills which were not prescribed to him.  Stafford was arrested and a search incident to arrest revealed that he was also in possession of a hypodermic syringe.

The warrant check indicated that Stafford had an outstanding warrant out of the Sussex County Sheriff’s Department for Failing to Appear.

As a result, Stafford was charged with the following offenses:

N.J.S. 2C:35-10.5(3)    Possession of a Prescription Legend Drug Without a Prescription   (3rd Degree)

N.J.S. 2C:36-6a            Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe   (Disorderly Persons)

Stafford was lodged in the Sussex County Jail pending court.
