Robbery Arrest

On Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 4:14pm, the Newton Police Department responded to a Union Place residence for a report of a Robbery.  Patrol Officers responded and met with the victim who reported that two male subjects entered into his apartment, assaulted him with a hammer, and robbed him of cash.  The victim advised that one of the individuals was wearing a ski mask in an attempt to hide his identity.  The individuals left the residence after robbing the victim.  As a result, the victim suffered abrasions and lacerations to his arm while defending himself.  He did not need medical assistance.

 

Further investigation by Detectives led to the identification of the actors and of witnesses.  Subsequent interviews of witnesses and the collection of evidence led to the arrest of three individuals on March 24, 2016.  The following individuals were arrested at various locations in Newton and charged with the following offenses:

 

·         David A. Ransom, an unemployed 38 year old male from Levittown, PA, was charged with

               Robbery [N.J.S. 2C:15-1(2) a Crime of the Second Degree],

               Burglary [N.J.S. 2C:18-1a(1) a Crime of the Second Degree],

               Conspiracy to Commit Robbery [N.J.S. 2C:5-2a(1) a Crime of the Second Degree], and

               Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes [N.J.S. 2C:39-4d a Crime of the Third Degree].


 

·         Michael J. Tremblay, an unemployed 38 year old male from Budd Lake, NJ, was charged with Robbery [N.J.S. 2C:15-1(2) a Crime of the Second Degree],

               Burglary [N.J.S. 2C:18-1a(1) a Crime of the Second Degree], and

               Conspiracy to Commit Robbery [N.J.S. 2C:5-2a(1) a Crime of the Second Degree].


 

·         Juliana I. Hoffman, an unemployed 35 year old female from Newton, NJ, was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Robbery [N.J.S. 2C:5-2a(1) a Crime of the Second Degree].


 

Judge John E. Mulhern, JMC authorized the issuance of the arrest warrants for the three individuals and set bail for the trio.  All three individuals were processed and lodged in the Sussex County Jail in default of bail. 

 

Ransom’s bail was set $232,500 no 10%.  Tremblay’s bail was set at $225,000 no 10%.  Hoffman’s bail was set at $50,000 no 10%.

 

The investigation was conducted by officers from the Newton Police Department’s Patrol Division, Detective Bureau and Detectives from the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office.
