On 12/22/14 at 4:44p.m., Newton Police responded to the parking lot of the G&S Deli at 267 Spring Street, Newton in order to investigate a motor vehicle accident with injury.

Upon arrival, investigation revealed that a red, 2014 Infiniti Q60 being operated by Lorraine Kraft, age 68, of Newton had pulled into the parking lot of the convenience store when her vehicle reportedly hit a bump resulting in it suddenly surging forward and striking a pedestrian identified as William Nebel, age 32, of Montague who was in the process of walking within the lot.

After striking Nebel, the vehicle continued forward and struck a guardrail in front of the store pushing it into the front of the building.  Subsequently, the Newton Fire Department and Building Inspector responded to the scene and determined that the building was structurally compromised causing it to be temporarily closed.

The Newton First Aid Squad responded and transported William Nebel to the Newton Medical Center for a complaint of back pain.  Kraft was uninjured and her vehicle was removed from the scene by Newton Gulf.

Kraft to be issued for N.J.S. 39:4-97 - Careless Driving.

Investigating Officers:

Ptl. Scott Vertetis, Sgt. Steve Benson, Ptl. Thomas Tosti and Special Officer Kyle Phlegar.
