On 9/13/18 at 10:30a.m., Newton Police arrested Hasdrede Kengne, age 20, of High Street, Newton for committing numerous burglaries to motor vehicles that occurred during the overnight hours on 8/28/18 and 8/29/18.
The thefts occurred mostly in the area of Madison Street, Halsted Street, Lawnwood Avenue, Spring Street and Main Street and involved various items being taken including cash, sunglasses and credit cards.
Subsequent investigation by numerous officers resulted in Kengne being charged with the following offenses before being released pending a 10/3/18 appearance in Sussex County Superior Court.
N.J.S. 2C:18-2a(1) Burglary (8 Counts) 3rd Degree
N.J.S. 2C:5-1a(1) Criminal Attempt (Burglary) 3rd Degree
N.J.S. 2C:17-3a(1) Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree
N.J.S. 2C:20-3a Theft of Moveable Property (4 Counts) Disorderly Persons
The majority of the stolen items were recovered and returned to their rightful owners.
Newton Police are reminding residents to remain vigilant, lock their car doors, remove valuable items or keep them out of sight and report any suspicious persons or activity observed.
