Fatal Motorcycle Accident Under Investigation

[Sunday 9/25/2016] Newton Police Officers responded to Water Street (State Rt. 206) at the intersection with Mill Street (County Rt. 519) for a crash involving a motorcycle at 1:36 PM; a southbound vehicle struck a southbound motorcycle causing its operator to be ejected and resulting in him receiving serious injuries.

 

Fredon EMS and Paramedics from Saint Clare’s responded to the scene and transported the victim to Newton Medical Center.  Identified as Joseph J. Gribble, age 54, of Stillwater Township, he later died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.

 

The crash and ensuing investigation caused one southbound lane of Water Street to be closed until approximately 4pm.  The crash remains under investigation by members of the Newton Police Detective Bureau and the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office.  No summonses have been issued at this time.  Further information will be released once the investigation is complete.

 

Responding Officers included Sgt. Frank Philhower, Ptl. Michael Wolanski, Ptl. Dan Finkle, Ptl. Russell Post and Det. Sgt. Dean Coppolella.  Newton Fire Department also responded to the scene and provided assistance.
