Hello,

I just upgraded to Windows 2000 and can't get the ColdFusion server that
came on the NOF 4.01 CD to run. It worked perfect on my old windows 95
machine. When I try to access the CF Administrator I get an error page. No
coldfusion page will open. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several
times. Can't seem to figure it out. I hope someone here can help. The errors
are listed below. I have the IIS server installed. One good thing is NOF
runs SEVERAL times faster with Windows 2000!

Error Diagnostic Information
Error occurred while attempting to open service.

Windows NT error number 1060 occurred.

Error Diagnostic Information
An error occurred while attempting to establish a connection to the service.

The most likely cause of this problem is that the service is not currently
running. You can use the 'Services' Control Panel to verify that the service
is running and to restart it if necessary.

Windows NT error number 2 occurred.

If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Joe Hayter

Dear Joe,
I know this is a basic question but did you reinstall Personal Web Server on
your machine that you installed Windows 2000? Cold Fusion server needs PWS to
run properly. Beyond that you will need to talk to Allaire about your Cold
Fusion server. They provide support for the server. Their address is:
http://www.allaire.com/support

I hope this helps.

Hi Erica,
No I don't have Personal Web Server on the Windows 2000 machine. I have the
IIS server that comes with Windows 2000 Professional. It worked great on
Windows 95 with PWS. Any other suggestion?

Thank you,
Joe Hayter

Dear Joe,
I'm not sure, you will have the check with Allaire but I think that the Cold
Fusion server 4.0 won't work with the Windows 2000 IIS web server. Please find
out and let me know. Thank you.

It wouldn't be much of an application server if it didn't run on IIS would
it? I'd guess the problem is with Win2K's security permissions.

A tech on Allaire's forum says that CF 4.51 is the only officially supported
version for Windows 2000. Probably has to do with the permissions or
something. I wonder if there is a free version (single user) available like
there was for the version 4 that came on the NOF 4 CD? I can't find it on
their site and they haven't answered my email yet so I don't know yet.

Thanks,

Hi Joseph,

I went to Allaire's site and downloaded the 4.01 Update and that did the
trick.

Joe,

Windows 2000 is revamped NT without the registry. It uses ACTIVE DIRECTORY
which is not compatible with the Old NT. So to make a long story stupid....
Software that was written for NTs will not install properly on Windows 2000
since there is no registry to write to like the old NT OS. You have to buy
all new software that is written for Windows 2000.

I my case I wiped out Windows 2000 and went back to the old NT software.

Hello Steven,

It's working good now since I downloaded the 4.01 update. I went from
windows 95 to windows 2000 and so far almost all my software works better.
I've had to down load a couple of new drivers and the update for ColdFusion
and that's about it. Thanks for your reply.

Thanks,
Joe Hayter
