Today i watched this youtoube video and at some point i spotted a nixie-display!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9b986NLk-Q

See at: 03:29  and  03:35

By the size i guess these are Z568M !

For those who are not familiar with german language:

The place in the video was a secret underground training area for top atlethes in west germany (DDR). The room could be de-pressurized by sucking out air, to simulate high altitude (4000m) to get a feeling how height affects the training.

I was staying in Portmeirion a while back, they have have a 24 hour prisoner channel on the TV in the rooms. I was watching the finale and was thinking that this is the era of the Nixie tube (1967), and what do you know? In the final minutes in the village there is a countdown sequence that uses a Nixie tube!

Wow. Just imagine how cheap one could buy those by paying a little bit to a guard of the site. Usually in such places left after fall of USSR with an old man as a guard no one is making any lists of equipment, so no one would really care if something was lost.

Someone here might give some thought to making a list of movies, t.v.
shows, etc. that have Nixies in them. Either clocks, instrumentation,
etc. Perhaps the moderator here could supply a spot here on neonixie,
where that info could be added by the members. Ira.

Just FYI, there are several moderators here :)

There have been threads over the years documenting "sightings", but not one single consolidated list.

If we have a volunteer or two, we could put such a list in the "database" section of the library.

I wish that I could be the first to volunteer, but my personal life just
will not allow that right now. I hope that it happens though as I think
it would be a cool thing to have here. Ira.

Seem to remember an effort to put clips and pics into one folder though -
but whether that was before or after AJ (?) revamped the albums.

Regarding the list of movies and documentaries and clips featuring our beloved display technology, I would suggest to experiment a collaborative approach that I have successfully used to write a FAQ within a community similar to neonixie-l (worldwide, nobody knew each other before, just sharing a common interesst and English language).

A spreadsheet is created on Google Docs/Drive and it is left open for editing to anyone knowing the link. The system embeds versioning control, so mistakes or unwanted deletions can be recovered. All editing is done through the web browser: no need for a specific software, no need to circulate a file and merge versions. The platform supports concurrent editing of the same document, so you might find yourself working on a row, while someone else edits other cells (if you've been dealing with multiple editors of a single document you'll love this feature!).

Hoping not to step over moderators, If you want to give it a try I made a draft in the group's files section and added references that I know of:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12flg9o8OFw3oAlLBToHjpNLt1VdUuMSRkMb-7SJ4xuA/edit?usp=sharing

The focus is on videos showing nixies in use in their original device and time. Technically "Tomorrowland" does not qualify under those conditions, but the collaborative work will shape the content of the list. The table is not meant to link personal projects or current products. I would also leave out static media like screenshots or pictures to avoid copyright infringments.

Once data has been collected, global permission to write will be removed and potentially ownership transferred to mods.

If this approach will not lead to meaningful data I will remove the file on May 8th, 2017.

Thank you for reading so far.

Great idea! But why exclude Tomorrowland and smiliar movies? Why not make a cell for the type. The cell could contain "Orginal" for videos where nixies are visible in their orginal use and state, or "Movie Prop" for custom and current time builds for movies (eg. Tomorrowland) and also in drawed form (eg. Steins Gate)?

My $0.02 here....

"Tomorrowland" was the inspiration for my first-and-only IN-18 clock I created. It even has a pushbutton to turn on the clock made from a tomorrowland souvenir pin.
My wife instantly recognized the nixie clock in the movie and gave me strict orders to make on for her.

I agree. My prisoner sighting, for example, is just one tube, yet it
is certainly of the right era.

BTW, I will add it once I get a spare moment - I have the boxed set so
I can get the exact timing.

Hello.
I know that Tomorrowland has to be in the list, but I couldn't find a proper description for what should be listed and what shouldn't. I hope native English speakers can suggest a better definition of "no personal and commercial products", if we all agree on this. I thnk we're looking for "Nixies hidden in movies."

Adding columns is part of the community effort to gather meaningful and complete data, so feel free to modify the table to host more information (yes, right-click works too).

Meanwhile I want to thank the contributor that has added two more references.

Paolo

I think 'no personal or commercial products' gets across what we are looking for. BTW, The Prisoner was a TV program so 'Movies' is a little restrictive. I think Videos would also qualify (for example music Videos and YouTube videos). But 'hidden' is probably a good enough term.

"Included in broadcast media" might be a better definition?

While I was searching for information on 122P224 tubes (aka B-5992-A), I came across a document in our very own document repository here. I transferred all the info into the shared spreadsheet, I added four more entries and I arranged everything by alphabetical order.

It would be good if people could add dates to most of them!

That would be B-5092-A.
