Why is there no "prefix" special symbol Nixie tube in the ZM102X / Z56X series?

Hi folks, I was just wondering, why is there no special symbol Nixie
tube displaying "m", "k", and so on? Suppose I want to display a value
of 12mA using Valvo's ZM102X series (or the RFT equivalent, Z56X). This
is not possible. How come?

Cheers
Jens

Not really, this is a tube for counters. Jens

Oh come on, guys... ;-)

I am looking for a prefix tube in the same tube envelope as the ZM1020.

Cheers

I think there are no known (to the internet) tubes in that series other than standard -,+,~ tubes. I don't know why no one decided to throw extra symbols in the existing tubes or nobody made an extra tube - perhaps the reason was that you needed to cover the bottom and top of symbols to achieve a symbol on right height, but that is just my wild guess. Or they simply weren't needed back then.

If any company made such special tubes, I would expect it to be Dolam - AFAIK only Dolam made almost whole alphabet in their LL-551 to LL-558 series. And there are still tubes uknown to the internet, recently LL-661 showed up for the first time.

some makers did offer to make "special symbol" tubes on a private order
basis, but that would have meant the customer (equipment maker) would be
in charge of supporting replacements for their customers. Much easier
to stick some Ne-2 Lamps behind a bezel with captions.

Yeah, probably you are right, Charles. But it is still quite remarkable
I think. Jens

Yes, maybe there was never a need for such a tube, so they never made one or at least we haven't seen one yet.

Think about what the tubes were used for, back then. They often replaced an analog meter. When using equipment with different scales, or multipliers, it was up to the user to select the appropriate range for the measurement, then read the meter or tube display and "do the math" himself, to figure out the number of zeros after (or before) the significant digits.

Having an M or K symbol would be a needless luxury.
