comparisiion neo4j and relational

I am new to neo4j.

In a lot of search the claim was that the performance of neo4j is better than relational.

I want to implement it myself with below tables: 

In general it is 1000 people with 50 random friends

people table + link-table

I need these data set and a guide to how to implement it both in neo4j and relational db like mysql.
