Hi Everyone, and happy new year,

We've noticed that our vents are looking like there must be mold in
the house; it is an old house (1932) so I guess we shouldn't be too
surprised, but we'd like to find out the cause of the problem and get
it fixed. Does anyone know of a trustworthy mold specialist?

Sorry - I am guessing this is the weirdest question to go out to this
board. I trust you all, and am just hoping someone has some good information.

cheers,
Kari (LulusMom)

And I need a similar recommendation. Have had terrible allergies since a nasty septic tank backup some months ago. We had it “remediated” but think there is residual mold.

Sam, my heating and air specialist (I'm sorry, I don't recall his last name right now) is a god-send and completely fabulous and conscientious biller.    I don't know that he necessarily does that type of mold work, but I bet he would have a great referral.   If anyone ever needs heating/air work, it really isn't an understatement to say he's been a god-send.   Give him a call and ask him if he has a good referral for you:    919-866-8183

Kari and Terry -

I highly recommend Scott Wiman at Eco-Friendly Remediation -  http://www.eco-friendlyremediation.com/index.html

Two winters ago we had some mice take up residence in our sealed crawl space.  When we had our termite inspection done in the spring the inspector observed the mess left behind by the mice.  I had a very hard time finding someone willing to clean this up and then I found Scott.  Although my job was somewhat outside of what he usually does, he did this work for me.  He did a thorough inspection, provided photos of what he saw and a detailed clean-up plan.  Using some of the same equipment and techniques that he uses for mold removal [HEPA vacuum, antimicrobial cleaning solution and some very impressive personal protective (safety) equipment] Scott and his assistant removed every trace of mouse presence.  Two years later my termite inspector still looks forward to our inspection because we have the cleanest crawl space he sees all year.

Before and after the job was done, I had several discussion with Scott about mold remediation and other environmental and air pollution issues.  Based on the work I had done and these discussions I am extremely confident in Scott's ability to identify and remediate mold problems.

This is really great information - thank you so
much. I'm going to call this afternoon if I can.

Hope your latest penguin trip was productive and fun,
cheers,

Kari,

is a terrific site for this sort of issue. I've received very helpful recommendations there for household issues. Several area CH's post there too.

Thanks so much Cat. I called Dave's guy, and left a message. I got a
response within 5 minutes, and he was helpful, knowledgeable and
friendly (and sang Dave's praises when I mentioned him). I've left a
messate at the place he recommended - expect I won't hear back until
Monday, but feel good about having the wheels in motion. I really
appreciate all the help I've gotten here - you people are the
greatest. Here's to a happy (and mold free) 2015 for all of us.

Thanks again,
Kari
