You are Erik Spoelstra. What adjustments are you making to give the Heat a shot at the 'chip?

I can only think of a couple obvious ones. LeBron's been the only Miami player who's been a difference-maker this series, so it makes sense to use him as effectively as you can. That likely means a lot of defensive possessions on Tony Parker and a lot of offensive possessions playing the point. I guess I'd cross my fingers and hope LBJ doesn't get too fatigued with that kind of workload. I might even consider heavily using lineups without a traditional point guard, considering how much of a nonfactor Chalmers has been.

All I know is that at this point they have to increase the variance. They are clearly the underdogs at this point. To me, that means hoisting up a lot more 3-pta. An all out blitz. Nothing to lose at this point.

The sad fact is that the Heat's roster has decayed to the point where there isn't a move for him to make.

The only move left is to maybe throw some zone at them similar to what the Mavs did, but Pop and the Spurs are too good for that to work for 3 straight games. Never seen Miami play zone so how not sure it could be effective after practicing it for 1 day.

Guess it's time to start talking about the draft again.

I like what they started the game with: going under screens on pnr. They need to continue that and stick to the shooters better, like Dallas did. Of course you will give up a lot of midrange jumpers to Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, but I'd bank SA not having 71 and 66 TS% consecutive games if that's what they get. Same on Diaw post-ups - match-up James on Diaw and play 1v1. Play Cole heavy minutes on Parker and concede the pull-up behind the screen.

Offensively, James in the post has to happen more. Otherwise spurs are practically zoning him behind his man, allowing his man to get up on the ball. Even Mills had success this way.

It's amazing how quickly fortunes can turn.  Wade and Allen are declining, they lost Mike Miller, they have no players with upside, and all of a sudden it appears that if Miami doesn't make a significant move their run is probably over. The east is weak, but with some reshuffling by a couple of teams and the potential for Rose to come back and be solid, it's no lock the Heat even get back to the finals.

The flip side to that is that a Spurs championship could bring about a mass retirement, so it's potentially not any more dire than a one-year thing.

Agreed that most of Miami's issues would've been better addressed by looking for players that were better fits and could've grown with the team rather than exclusively relying on old 'name' guys. Even last year, someone like Mike Miller was paid more than pretty much any 2-3 productive Spurs reserves combined.

Does giving minutes to B-Easy count as "increasing the variance?"
