Press Release: 27 Re-contesting MLAs in Puducherry declare a 144% Increase in Assets

​Dear Friends,
Puducherry Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) have analyzed the affidavits of 27 outgoing MLAs who are contesting again in the 2016 Puducherry Assembly Elections.Please find a summary of the analysis below:

  • Average Assets in 2011 Elections: The average assets of these 27 re-contesting MLAs fielded by various parties including independents in 2011 were Rs 4.87 crores (Rs. 4, 87, 76, 060).
  • Average Assets in 2016 Elections: The average assets of these 27 re-contesting MLAs in 2016 is Rs 11.92 crores (Rs. 11, 92, 31,184).
  • Average Asset change from 2011 to 2016: The average assets of these 27 re- contesting MLAs, between the Puducherry Elections of 2011 and 2016 increased by Rs. 7.04 crores (Rs. 7, 04,55,123).
  • Percentage change in assets from 2011 to 2016

    Average percentage increase in assets for these 27 re-contesting MLAs is 144%.

·         Average asset change of re-contesting MLAs: Party-Wise: The table below provides the party-wise categorization of increase in average assets of re-contesting MLAs. Financial details of 27 re-contesting MLAs fielded by various political parties have been taken from the recently filed affidavits by these MLAs and the values of these financial assets have been compared to the corresponding values of the assets that the MLAs showed in their affidavits in 2011. Following table showcases the party wise assortment of the average increase in assets of the re-contesting MLAs:
