Goa Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of all 40 newly elected MLAs in the Goa 2017 Assembly Elections.

· MLAs with criminal cases:Out of the 40 MLAs analysed, 9(23%) MLAs have declared criminal cases against themselves. Out of 40 MLAs analyzed for Goa 2012 Assembly Elections, 12 (30%) had declared criminal cases against themselves.
· MLAs with serious criminal cases:6(15%) MLAs have declared serious criminal cases including cases related to murder, attempt to murder etc. Out of 40 MLAs analysed during Goa Assembly elections in 2012, 3 (7.5%) MLAs had declared serious criminal cases against themselves.
· Party wise MLAs with criminal cases:4(24%)out of 17 MLAs from INC, 2(15%) out of 13 MLAs from BJP, 1 (33%) out of 3 MLAs from Goa Forward Party , 1(100%) out of 1 MLA from NCP and 1 (33%) out 3 Independent MLAs have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
· Party wise MLAs with serious criminal cases: 2(12%)out of 17 MLAs from INC, 1(8%) out of 13 MLAs from BJP, 1 (33%) out of 3 MLAs from Goa Forward Party , 1(100%) out of 1 MLA from NCP and 1 (33%) out 3 Independent MLAs have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.

· Crorepati MLAs: All the 40(100%) newly elected MLAs analysed, are crorepatis. Out of 40 MLAs analysed during Goa 2012 assembly elections, 37(93%) MLAs were crorepatis.

average of assets per MLA who won in the Goa 2017 assembly elections is Rs.10.90 crores whereas the average asset for each candidate who
contested in the 2017 assembly elections was Rs 4.75 crores.In 2012,
the average assets per MLA analyzed was Rs
7.28 crores
.
· Party wise average assets:Among major parties, the average assets per MLA for 17 INC MLAs analysed is Rs 12.17 crores, 13 BJP MLAs have average assets of Rs 11.53 crores, 3 Maharashtrawadi Gomantak MLAs have average assets of Rs 9.35 crores and 3 Goa Forward Party MLAs have average assets worth of Rs 8.55 crores.
· MLAs with high liabilities: 15 MLAs have declared liabilities of Rs 1 crore and above, and the details of the top 3 MLAs are as follows:

· Education Details of MLAs: 18 (45%) MLAs have declared their educational qualification to be between 8th pass and 12th pass while 17 (43%) MLAs have declared having an educational qualification of graduate or above.
· Age details of MLAs: None of the MLAs have declared their age to be below 40 years.18 (45%) MLAs have declared their age to be between 40 and 50 years while 22 (55%) MLAs have declared their age to be between 51 and 80 years. In the 2012 Goa Assembly Elections, 24 (60%) MLAs had declared their age to be between 31 and 50 years while 16 (40%) MLAs had declared their age to be between 51 and 80 years. Average age of MLAs in 2017 is 52.8 years whereas average age of MLAs in 2012 was 48.7 years.
· Gender details of MLAs:Out of 40 MLAs, 2(5%) MLAs are women. In 2012, out of 40 MLAs, 1 (3%) MLAs was a woman.
