TENsational Choral Blast in font 2
As Nashville is being hit with a blast of winter, you might be tempted to miss the Choral Blast!

DON'T DO IT!

It may be chilly outside, but it will be toasty inside the Ryman, full of sizzling hot harmonies and the stirring warmth of hearts and minds joining together in song!

“TENsational: Choral Blast!” is perhaps the most exciting of the TEnsational performances since Nashville in Harmony will be joined by four Nashville vocal groups specifically invited because of their diversity, their musical excellence, and their contribution to building community in Nashville. All five groups will take the Ryman stage separately to share their beautiful vocal gifts with music of their choosing. Then all five groups will blend their voices together as one to form a finale chorus of over 250 voices. This massive chorus will be under the direction of special guest conductor, Greg Gilpin, renowned choral composer who wrote Nashville in Harmony's signature song, "Why We Sing."

In a city known for its music, and a venue known for historic performances, this will truly be a magical night worthy of Music City USA!

Participating groups:

Nashville in Harmony (NiH) is Tennessee’s first and only musical arts organization specifically created for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people – and their straight allies. With a mission to “use music to build community and create social change,” NiH brings people together within both the LGBT community and also the community at large.

Nashville in Harmony is proud to bring a unique style and voice to the Nashville arts scene, striving for musical excellence by selecting challenging choral literature for mixed voices. In addition to mastering that type of material, choosing music with lyrics that encourage others to make a difference in the world is equally important.  Nashvilleinharmony.org

Nashville Singers has developed a reputation for producing imaginative programs that span many genres, including popular music, Americana, swing, gospel, sacred, songs from Broadway and movies, and a large selection of Christmas holiday favorites. They cover the work of many artists including, the Beatles, The Turtles, Michael Jackson, and even Duke Ellington.

Their mission is to enrich lives through singing and the support of music education. nashvillesingers.org

Metro Nashville Chorus has performed and promoted the barbershop sound in middle Tennessee since 1971. Their members live in Nashville, Columbia, Knoxville, Memphis, and as far away as Birmingham. They were named the 2013 Regional Chorus Champion at the annual Sweet Adelines Regional competition, held April 6-8 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. As a result, Metro Nashville will travel to Baltimore to compete with the top 35 choruses in the world at the 2014 International Contest.

The chorus, under the direction of Master Director Kim Wonders, has earned the right to compete internationally nine times, and has won gold medals in their size division three times. They were mid-size chorus champions in 2008 and 2012, and small chorus champions in 2006. Metro Nashville Chorus is the only chorus in Sweet Adelines to have won gold in both size divisions. metronashvillechorus.org

Hunters Lane High School Chorale: Nashville in Harmony has long strived to partner with youth through music to build community and a more vibrant future in Nashville and Middle Tennessee. For that reason, NiH is extremely pleased to welcome the Hunters Lane High School Chorale. Under the direction of Chuck Brown, this audition only performance choir is a place where students who are serious about singing are given the support and encouragement to cultivate their talents. Nashville in Harmony will be partnering with Hunter’s Lane in a variety of ways to help support the music program there. Hunters Lane High School Chorale

MLK Reunion Choir: For the past 18 years, a varying group of choirs has joined together to perform a spectacular Martin Luther King Jr celebration concert to commemorate the positive changes in our communities. For this year’s celebration those choirs included; First Unitarian Universalist Church choir, Corinthian Baptist Church choir, among others. The combined voices of this MLK Reunion Choir will also bring their talents and their important message to the stage of the Ryman.
