Subject: [Stanford GEC] ASTHO Healthy Aging Webinar Announcement: Preparedness Planning for Older Adults with Cognitive Impairment

Dear Stanford GEC Program Participants,

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) invited the GEPR Collaborative (that includes SGEC) to give a webinar program that aligns with the Action Items identified in the CDC Road Map to the Healthy Brain Initiative (HBI). The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) has a CDC contract for implementing some of the HBI Action Items and has teamed up with SGEC & OVAR-GEC to co-host this webinar.

This June 16 webinar is a blending of CDC (ASTHO public health networks) and HRSA (GEC healthcare networks) efforts to expedite national training on dementia/AD care of health professionals and other healthcare providers. Please join us if you can.

Sincerely,

Marian Tzuang, MSW

Healthy Aging: Preparedness Planning for Older Adults with Cognitive Impairment

Monday, June 16
3:00 - 4:00pm EST

As the number of older adults living within the community increases overall, it's crucial for communities to recognize the need for a comprehensive preparedness plan that considers older adults with cognitive impairment. Government officials and policymakers are being faced with identifying policies and recommendations to help support the growing number of older adults choosing to age in place (staying within their homes) as well as those within long term care facilities. In an effort to help build state preparedness planning for older adults with cognitive impairment, ASTHO has partnered with CDC to implement The Healthy Brain Initiative Road Map part of CDC's Healthy Brain Initiative.

The Road Map outlines how state and local public health agencies and their partners can promote cognitive functioning, address cognitive impairment for individuals living in the community, and help meet the needs of care partners. Specific actions are addressed in four domains: monitor and evaluate; educate and empower the nation; develop policy and mobilize partnerships; and assure a competent workforce.

This webinar will explore areas for synergy between existing efforts to increase state preparedness focusing on older adults, especially those with Alzheimer's and other dementias. It will help participants identify key partnerships for preparedness planning, identify and discuss major issues for preparedness planning for cognitively impaired older adults in long term care, and identify and discuss major issues for preparedness planning for community living cognitively impaired diverse older populations.

This is the fifth webinar of a Healthy Aging webinar series focusing on strategies and partnerships for improving and sustaining the health of older adults and their communities.

If you missed any of the previous Healthy Aging webinars all recordings are available. Please visit ASTHO's Healthy Aging website to view recent resources and recommendations.
