Hi,

Not sure if anyone can help me...

We lost our D3 server as the result of a failed RAID controller.  Knowing that the replacement of the controller would require the complete reload of the server chose to try and virtualize CentOS and D3.

I have CentOS 4.9 loaded and running, and after loading the D3 ABS, I try to load the data files and encounter an error about having an illegal activation before the load of the datafiles has started.

I have created a 6gb partition under vmware and tried as type 62 and d3.  Sometimes I am able to load the data files, but when booting D3 a second time I am dumped into the monitor debugger, other times I just get the illegal activation message.

I have seen a number of posts saying that virtualization does work.  If anyone knows what I might be missing or if this is even possible I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks,

Wes

Virtualization may work, but D3 considers the VM a completely different machine, which invalidates your activation code.

Before you move a D3 installation to a VM, or even change characteristics of an existing VM with D3, such as the number of CPUs, drive size, etc., you should first deactivate D3, then reactivate it on the target system.

Your best bet in your current situation is to contact Rocket's D3 support.
