Elia y Elizabeth were a sister duo who in a brief
yet dazzling career during 1972 and 1973 achieved great success in their
native Colombia. Their concise and natural mix of styles sways between
soft-pop with a touch of tropical-pastoral funk, singer-songwriter sweetened
by the subtle perfume of Caribbean music and
gentle psychedelia. Following the acclaimed release of their compilation
"La onda de Elia y Elizabeth" on Vampisoul, we present a very
special double A-side split 7" featuring 'Alegría', one of the
highlights from that collection. On the other side, the Elia y Elizabeth song
'Soy una nube' is wonderfully performed by Elefant Records artists Single,
one of the most unique music acts in Spain. Formed by Teresa Iturrioz
and Ibon Errazkin, who in their previous bands Aventuras de Kirlian and Le
Mans were responsible for some of the finest Spanish pop music of the last 25
years, Single are long-time Elia y Elizabeth fans and their exquisite cover,
recorded this year and unavailable on vinyl until now, is the realization of

The Explosives (who would go on to be Roky Erickson's backing band) lived up
to their name in the late 70s and early 80s, packing more power than their
so-called punk rock peers. That's because they were not actually punk rockers

the time), they played something that had been out of fashion for a while,
music of rhythm with a jangly melody, something called "rock and

OFRENDA DE VYTAS
First vinyl reissue of this lost treasure of Latin
American music. Vytas Breener and his band created an amazing body of work
during the 70s and early 80s, incorporating traditional Venezuelan sounds and
Latin American rhythms into a progressive rock setting. "La ofrenda de
Vytas" was their first album and stands as a masterpiece of Venezuelan
symphonic folk music. Although born in Germany
in 1947, Vytas Brenner's family moved to Venezuela when he was just a
child. His music career would start during a period when the Brenners lived
in Barcelona
and Vytas formed the Vytas Brenner Quartet with his brother Haakon and local
musicians Toti Soler and Jordi Sabatés. With the addition of singer Jeanette
in 1966 they became Brenner's Folk, the origin of the more successful
Pic-Nic, although Vytas and Haakon had to leave the band when their family
returned to Venezuela.
After some years devoted to his music studies and a few collaborations, Vytas
started his own band in 1972, with which he would become of the leading music
innovators in Venezuela
over the following years. Released in 1973, "La ofrenda de Vytas"
was their first album and presents a truly unique fusion of traditional
Venezuelan music, Latin American rhythms and progressive rock. With a setting
of guitars, piano, organ, bass, synths and drums augmented by traditional
instruments (harp, cuatro, maracas, percussion), the album is constantly
inventive and creates a captivating atmosphere through well-crafted
compositions and impressive playing. A masterpiece of Venezuelan symphonic

First ever vinyl reissue of 1987's opera rock by Spain's
legendary punk band Eskorbuto. Housed in a controversial gatefold sleeve, the
double LP is a political satirical work against any kind of dictatorial
regime. "Los demenciales chicos acelerados" is Eskorbuto's fourth
studio album, originally released by Discos Suicidas in 1987. It was their
most ambitious project, a double LP rock opera in the vein of
"Quadrophenia" by their beloved The Who. It tells the story of an
unscrupulous young man who wishes to achieve power at all costs, stepping
over everyone and everything in order to do whatever he wants politically. In
the end, he falls due to his ego and is betrayed by those around him. Hence
lines such as "crowds are a nuisance", "I'll come unscathed
out of the attacks planned by my image consultant" or "shouting in
front of the scum". In 1988 band members Iosu and Juanma narrated the
album's concept and story on a Radio Euskadi show, the Basque Country's
public broadcaster. This satirical political plot also explains the
controversial Nazi pictures on the front and back covers. Eskorbuto were
equalling the unprincipled politician of their rock opera with the Nazis and
Franco's dictatorship. It's a conceptual record that attacks any kind of
dictatorial political regime. Although "Los demenciales..." came
out on Discos Suicidas, in typical Eskorbuto fashion the band stole a copy of
the master and sold it to the Twins label, which also released it a few
months later with a different cover. The original sleeve caused some trouble,
to say the least, with its combination of Nazi photos and the Spanish flag on
the back accompanied by the words "Of national interest". The album
contains new versions of a few previous tracks such as 'Ratas rabiosas' and
'Enterrado vivo' plus the studio version of 'Más allá del cementerio'. For the recording the
band enrolled keyboardist Aitor Amezaga, who would also collaborate on their
next album. This is the first facsimile vinyl reissue of one of the most
piercing albums in Spain's

and truly established as the UK's
top Jamaican singing star. Over the years following his move from Jamaica in 1960 he had acquired a strong and
faithful following in Britain
and well beyond, but the recent Reggae explosion increased this many times
over. Eager to exploit Laurel's
astounding popularity, Pama Records fought off competition from esteemed
rivals, Trojan and Doctor Bird, to acquire rights to issue his material, the
bulk of which subsequently saw release on their newly launched Nu Beat
imprint. By the Spring of 1970, he had provided Pama with series of
best-selling singles, and the hugely popular long-player, Scandal in a
Brixton market, but with demand for his works showing no signs of
diminishing, the company decided to collect a dozen of his most popular sides
to date for what became the aptly titled collection, The High Priest Of
Reggae. Despite selling in huge numbers at the time, the LP soon became a
rarity and this, added to the enduring appeal of Aitken's work has resulted
it becoming one of the most sought after Reggae long-players around. Now,
after four decades of waiting for its re-release, fans can finally obtain the

collecting and the "Incredible Strange Music" scene, "Reachin
Arcesia" has always been the cause of many rumours and bizarre stories.
We set the record straight with this, the first ever legit reissue of this
legendary album, featuring detailed liner notes telling the real story of the
great John Arcesi for the first time. Arcesi was a veteran singer of the
big-band era who in the early 70s recorded a pop album with help from an
anonymous hip studio musicians. The album was released in a private edition
of 300 copies and most of them were given away to family and friends. In the
late 80s, one of those copies was unearthed by rare record dealer Paul Major,
who was one of the first persons to appreciate the singularities of
"Reachin Arcesia". Since then, the album, which mixes over the top
crooner vocals with late 60s acid-rock / pop arrangements is now considered a

music of Addis Ababa.
The Oromo people, the largest ethnic group, hasn't been equally represented.
Ali Birra, the biggest Oromo star and a hero to his people was so beloved
that he did break into the Amhara dominated record market. Learning how to
play the guitar using the tuning for an oud, the sound is as much Arabic as
Ethiopian. After two years singing in the Imperial Body Guard Band alongside

In 1980, Genesis P-Orridge and Peter Christopherson
travelled to New York to meet famed beat writer and cultural pioneer William
S. Burroughs and his executor James Grauerholz to starting the daunting task
to compile the experimental sounds works of Burroughs, which, up until that
point, had never been heard. During those visits, Burroughs would play back
his tape recorder experiments featuring his spoken word "cut-ups",
collaged field recordings from his travels and his flirtations with EVP
recording techniques, pioneered by Latvian intellectual Konstantins Raudive.
Throughout the next year, P-Orridge, Christopherson and Grauerholz would
spent countless hours compiling various edits, each collection showcasing
Burroughs sensitive ear and keen experimental prowess for audio anomaly
within technical limitations. By the time 1981 came through, Burroughs had
relocated to Lawrence, KS
in which to escape the violence and mania of New York City life. It is in Lawrence that P-Orridge
and Christopherson put the finishing touches on the record that would be
known as "Nothing Here Now but the Recordings". The album would
come out in the Spring of 1981 as the final release for Industrial Records,.
The album remained out of print until 1998 when John Giorno and the Giorno
Poetry Systems included the album on a multi-disc retrospective CD box set
compiling the majority of Burroughs seminal recordings.

Freshly married and back from a tour of duty in
Germany, Arkansas native Johnny Cash moved to Memphis in 1954 and soon after
set foot inside the door at 706 Union Ave., otherwise known as Sun Records
studio, looking to put his songs to tape. The earliest incarnations of those
now-ubiquitous songs are what is collected here, demos recorded in 1955 and
1956 at Sam Phillips' Sun studios. Raw and unadorned, this collection
includes old favorites as well as mostly unheard obscurities, and is an
absolutely essential collection for any Cash fan or, really, anyone interested

CHILDREN OF THE MUSHROOM - CHILDREN OF THE MUSHROOM
With only one 45 released back at the time, Children
Of The Mushroom epitomized the psychedelic-garage sound coming out from California in the late
60s. Formed in Thousand Oaks
by Jerry McMillen and Dennis Swansen, they evolved from a mid-60s teen-beat
band called The Captives. In 1967, they became Children Of The Mushroom, a
name which reflected their new psychedelic sound and image. The following
year, they caught the attention of a couple of young producers, who signed
the band for a 45 release. Recorded in 1968 for Soho Records, "August
Mademoiselle" / "You cant erase a mirror", is one of the
masterpieces from the first psychedelic era: feedback, fuzz, organ,
mysterious vocals.Soon after, the band incorporated a new guitar player,
shortened their name to The Mushroom and started playing in a more
heavy-psych vein, in a similar style to Iron Butterfly. This retrospective
album includes both tracks from their monster 45 with sound taken from the
masters plus previously unreleased tracks by The Mushroom, recorded in 1968.
These are raw, lo-fi home recordings (some of the tracks were recorded in a
real garage!) with lot of fuzz guitar and organ. Its the sound of a
psychedelic band in 1968 playing free and wild, without any producer or
record label executive telling them what to do. An incredible document.

COLTRANE, JOHN & DON CHERRY - THE AVANT-GARDE
Recorded during the summer of 1960 this legendary LP
is a milestone of Free Jazz history. Joining Coltrane and Cherry are
essentially the rest of the members of the Ornette Coleman Quartet: Ed
Blackwell (drums) and Charlie Haden (bass) on "Cherryco" and
"The Blessing" as well as Percy Heath (bass) on the remaining three
selections. This is fitting, as over half of the album consists of early
Coleman compositions. Coltrane's integration into this band works with some
extraordinarily fresh results. Neither Cherry nor Coltrane makes any radical
departures on this album; however, it's the ability of each to complement the
other both in terms of modal style and - perhaps more importantly - texture
that lends heavily to the success of these sides.

CRUDE S.S. - KILLING FOR NOTHING
Crude S.S. was formed in Sweden back in 1982, with
their first self-released demo, and rapidly became one of the pioneers in the
F.W.O.S.H.C. ("First Wave Of Swedish Hardcore") along with seminal
acts like: Anti Cimex, Absurd, MOB47, Etc. by the time the S.S. was later
added, since they felt Crude was a bit empty, and caused some confusion at
the time, before people knew it stood for Crude Society System. They began to
play several shows with an onslaught of various Swedish punk bands at the
time, incl. the now legendary Finland
tour with Anti Cimex. They quickly gained a name for themselves but primarily
among their own community in Sweden.
It wasnt until late 1983 they reached a broader audience with the release of
their eternal classic EP "Wholl Survive", also appearing on the now
legendary compilations "Cleanse The Bacteria", "Bollox To
Christmas", and "Bollox To The Gonads". They fit in well with
the established lot of Swedish hardcore punk of that time, although they
managed to create a sound on their own which was somewhat unique at the time,
still fast and aggressive, harsh vocals, shifting from slow and sludgy and
unrefined anger defined the Crude S.S. sound, picking up influences from the
early thrash like Celtic Frost/Hellhammer era crossed with Discharge, Venom,
and Motorhead. Crude S.S. have definitely earned an eternal name for
themselves among the international DIY hardcore punk community and have
served as significant influence for countless bands from all corners of the
globe. Very little is known about the time of their official break up as a
band but the last official compilation album that they appeared on was
released in 1986, thus leading one to believe this to be the approximate time
of their final days. With very little available or even existing, in terms of
official releases, they are easily one of the most bootlegged bands in
international hardcore punk history next to the likes of Anti Cimex, Mob 47,
and Confuse (Japan).

The Bronx's own
Dion DiMucci, best known to the world mononymously as Dion, absolutely ruled
the airwaves of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Following the success of his
first group, Dion & The Belmonts, DiMucci struck out on his own in 1960.
Though his first solo efforts failed to hit, Dion moved with the times and,
seeking a more rock & roll oriented sound, came up with "Runaround
Sue". The track topped the charts in late '61 and was followed by the #2
hit, "The Wanderer". Both are included here along with 10 more
classic cuts from a man with more talent and swagger than just about anybody
could ever hope for. If this album doesn't make you wanna grab your girl and
get on the dance floor, you ought to check your pulse. Just remember, though, keep away
from Runaround Sue.

sessions that resulted in Michael's "First Songs" LP on Folkways.
Side A starts with "What'll You Say, What'll You Do", a pretty
psychedelic classic that can very well put you into some kinda trance. After
that we hear "The Blues Comes Around" - a sad drifty little tune,
then "Little Girl On Roller Skates" with a rare Hurley harmonica
solo & hallicinatory lyrics worthy of some examination & then a
beautiful alternate take on one of Michael's all time greats - "The Tea
Song". Side B starts up with yet more alternate takes of songs from the
Folkways LP - this time of "Intersolar blues" & "I Like My
Wine". After that we get to hear two great compositions for the first
time, & man oh man are they pretty - "Hey Hey Hey Hey" &
"I Love You Babe". Real great stuff all around that we recommend
for deep into it Hurley fans & newcomers to his art alike. Michael Hurley
is a great American song writer with his own unique way of seeing the world
& this LP is a great testament to his vision. Faux Folkways wraparound

Though Michael Hurley needs no further introduction,
and in spite of a discography comprising many highly regarded albums, this
2013 batch of home recordings includes some of his best songs ever! Hurley
plays heart breakers solo with guitar and/or organ accompaniment, along with
three tracks in which he is joined by the beautiful voice of Jolie Holland.
Some of the most incredible songs here are the eerie 'Alligator In The Water',
the poignant and all too true 'Disaster At The Wheel', the utterly cosmic

caught a gig of Ike Turner's Kings of Rhythm at a St. Louis nightclub and practically begged
Ike to let her sing with the band. Ike refused, as only men were allowed to
sing in his group at the time, but she persisted and once he heard Tina sing
once he wouldn't let her stop. Since that fateful meeting, the world of
R&B has never been the same. Ike & Tina Turner's Kings Of Rhythm
Dance is their second long player, originally released in 1961, and it is
full of stompers, rippers, and all around rocking R&B magic. Ike's guitar

In the early seventies, one had to be a real rebel
and have lots of courage to be in a rock band and had to have a horseshoe up
somewhere to manage to record an album. This is probably why there were few
bands but then again this pushed them underground and enticed them to make
groundbreaking music (ARKHAM, CLASSROOM/COS, PLACEBO, PAZOP) and much later
the UNIVERS ZERO and its offshoots such as PRESENT. LAGGER BLUES MACHINE
consist of the Duponcheel bros on kb and drums, Maes on bass, Cuisset on
guitars, Mottoule on kb and Pilotta on winds instruments. On their sole
release, LBM develops a somber mood rock that takes elements from SOFT
MACHINE, some from MAGMA, some more from ZAPPA & CRIMSON. But make its
own sound with relative good interplay between the solo instruments but
sounds nothing like blues (actually, the name was a pun as they always longed
for beers in their locale)

fully deserving of its reputation. The band would go on to record with
legends like Keith Christmas, Sandy Denny, and more, as well as record a
second album in 1971, but nothing can surpass the pure psych perfection of
their debut.

led to a less successful tour this time around, but the band were nonetheless
obliged to hit the studio again later that year to record their second album.
As it turned out, "The World of Genius Hans" stands among the
finest French progressive rock albums ever released, but the promotional
problems that band had experienced with the first album continued throughout
the touring and promotion of the second. The two albums released by MOVING
GELATINE PLATES cannot be considered anything less than classics, drawing
together and fusing all manner of influences and setting the tone early on
for a eclectic national French scene that was among the strongest in Europe.

either the dolciola (a now extinct chimey sounding piano) or something
entirely home made. No one knows for sure. Phillips sings with a beautiful
voice and his instrument provides a celestial and otherworldly background.
His songs are like lullabies straight from the spirit world to you. No one
sounds like Washington Phillips and no house should be without a copy of this

New Orleans native Lloyd Price first found success
in the early 50s on Specialty Records. After several hit records, his career
was interrupted by the draft, which sent him off to Korea in
1954. When he returned from the war, he found that, not only had he been
replaced in his own band by none other than Little Richard, his former
driver, Larry Williams was now cutting records for Specialty himself.
Undeterred, Lloyd began recording again almost immediately. His sound by the
late 50s had morphed into a perfect blend of pop and New Orleans R&B, a
sound that brought him to a wider audience as the classic
"Personality" hit #2 on the charts, and "I'm Gonna Get
Married" reached #3. Those two classics are included here along with 10
more great pieces of pop-tinged Rhythm and Blues. DIG IN.

Originally released in 1963 on the legendary label,
Del-Fi, The Sentinals Big Surf! is a classic piece of California surf-rock. Formed in the
central coast city of San Luis Obispo, perhaps most famous for its Madonna
Inn, The Sentinals included keyboardist Lee Michaels, of "Do You Know
What I Mean" fame, and drummer Johnny Barbata, future member of The
Turtles and session drummer for the likes of Ry Cooder, Graham Nash, and lots
more. Though they possessed a classic surf-rock sound, The Sentinals were
unique in their incorporation of Latin American influences, thanks to
guitarist Tommy Nunes, on tunes like "Latinia" and "Latin

Formed in Manchester
in 1980, Stockholm Monsters were signed with Factory Records in 1981.
Discovered at a show in Manchester when the band was still teens, New Order's
Peter Hook took the young band under his wing and went on to produce the
majority of the band's catalogue, under the alias Be Music. Their first
single, Fairy Tales, didn't appear until 1982, due to the tardiness of the
songs producer Martin Hannett. Drawing early praise from influential music
magazine's NME and Melody Maker, along with touring with New Order, the band
seemed set for success. However through numerous line-up changes, delays in
recording and the onslaught of bands such as the Happy Mondays the band never
quite hit their mark. During their time with the Factory Records, Stockholm
Monsters released one LP (Alma Mater) and a series of 7"s and singles
including a scathing take down of Factory's primary indie label rival,
entitled "How Corrupt is Rough Trade". Available in a limited run,
this complete collection gives new light to one of Factory's lost artists.

This obscure gem has been posted on a great many
blogs over the last several years. Though seemingly much loved, details about
the album or its creators still remain unknown. Apparently the lead
songwriter-known as Embaixador (Ambassador)-appeared in at least one film in Brazil,
playing a gangster in the James Bonds-like musical Roberto Carlos em Ritmo de
Aventura (1968), and is reported to have died in the 90s. Estrelando
Embaixador is candomblé-inspired psychedelic party music, taking the
Afro-Brazlian sound into some wild territory. It's a heady mix of
tropicalismo, chimed guitar, conversational chatter, studio fuckery, and
heavy percussion with a female chorus. The songs blend together so that each
side of the record runs as a continual piece. Side A is called "Timolô,
Timodê;" Side B "Lido's
Square."

'The Widow's Joy: Eastern European Immigrant Dances in America
1925-1930', the first release of Sound American Records. Canary Records
curator Ian Nagoski has crafted the ultimate Lemko party record as a labor of
love for the forgotten music of the Austro-Hungarian diaspora in the midwest
region of the United
States. 'The Widow's Joy', with a cover by
Mississippi Records' Eric Isaacson, features the music that helped immigrant
coal workers and laborers from the Austro-Hungarian region of Europe and
moved to Illinois, Ohio, and Pennsylvania to work, live, and dance. Built on
the backs of these workers, America
has forgotten a large part of their musical culture, which has been
overshadowed by more indigenous musical forms like blues, jazz, gospel, and
folk musics from Appalachia. In a bid not to
supplant these rich musics, but to add more to the story, Nagoski has
tirelessly scoured huge collections of seemingly lost and forgotten 78rpm
records to rediscover and bring to light lost cultural gems like those found
on 'The Widow's Joy' and his recent smashing success, 'To What Strange Place:
The Music of the Ottoman-American Diaspora 1916-1929'.

Its been said that Link invented the power chord but
this righteous accolade doesnt convey the distorted, stripped down excitement
of his craft. The flash point was Rumble, released in 1958. Link was never
better than when he tapped into delinquent themes. It doesnt matter whether
this was innate or via creative osmosis, the result was the same; the stark
distillation of rebellion. It got you in the hips and the soul. Despite being
banned on several US radio stations for fear of stirring up youthful unrest
and boosting gang membership, Rumble went on to be a million seller. However,
Cadence Records, who had signed Link and his brothers, Vernon and Doug, a.k.a The W/Ray Men,
chickened out of releasing any further rabble rousing tracks. When the label
suggested that Link tone it down, The Wrays took a stroll to Epic and
continued a run of exhilarating instrumentals including Rawhide, Comanche and
Slinky. Whilst having contracted tuberculosis when serving in the Korean war
affected Wrays vocals, his guitar playing mostly did the singing for him but
he wasnt always volatile, Lillian and Alone revealing the heart beneath the tough
exterior. Nothing owned Link Wray but he owned rock n roll.

Action in Nancy / France, the new recording goes even further: while the deep
bass frequencies - produced by the huge orchestra drum, at some points as

piping sounds, amplified violin harmonics, bitten clarinet tones attack the
