revive de sus cenizas, una vez más, para editar el cuarto álbum de
la banda cuyo lema es "No nos gusta el rock (sin el roll)".
Prostituido término, el del rock'n'roll, en esta sociedad Disney que
llamamos nuestra, pero no hay otro posible si hablamos de los de
Barcelona. La última vez que supimos de ellos andaban perdiendo su
tiempo, y nuestro dinero, en aplicar la fisión atómica al estilo
musical inventado por aquellos señores que se llamaban Turner (Ike y
Joe) y algunos de sus contemporáneos; el resultado, que llamaron "At
the top of the Bottom", fue un disco de los que marcan una
trayectoria, un KO metálico a los sentidos que dejaba en el aire la
incógnita de cómo iban a poder continuar tan tremenda burrada. Desde
luego no era un disco como para intentar repetirlo, y no lo han
hecho. Probada y superada la fase "todo más alto que nadie más", han
cambiado los neumáticos de clasificación por los de paseo y nos
entregan el más juguetón de sus trabajos. Y definitivamente, el
mejor. Lo sé, llevo repitiendo esto desde su segundo álbum, pero,
¿que quieres que haga? Los cabrones se aplican. No es que las
constantes de su sonido hayan variado mucho: su particular estilo
que resume con apabullante naturalidad lo más elegante y exquisito,
y a la vez lo más intenso y excitante, del punk y el rock'n'roll de
los 50's, 60's y 70's (otro lema que suelen usar) sigue intacto, ya
sea condensado en trallazos de 3 minutos sin cepa reconocible, por
poseer el aroma de todas -Shake, Talk too loud, Tired of Being
Alone-, o bien optando por resaltar una clave concreta y tomar
caminos más fácilmente identificables que consiguen que no suenen
trillados (digamos que los pisan de manera tan firme y delicada como
pocos). Ahí tenemos su destilación de lo mejor del rock estoniano
-sin caer en ninguno de sus manidísimos clichés- en "Who's to
blame", el R&B de Nueva Orleans, protagonista por partida doble
en las versiones "Hurting me" de Shirley & Jessie y "Sugar
Woman" de The Chitlins, la sombra de The Zeros que planea sobre el
punk'n'roll de "In my bones", el homenaje a su tugurio favorito
("Bar Ramón") en clave rock'n'roll negro de los 50's, el pedazo de
versión de Paul Revere & The Raiders ("Good thing"), el aroma
60s mod-beat de "Try my love", o la gamberrada freakbeat que cierra
el disco, como los Them/Belfast Gypsies haciendo voodoo con los MC5.
Tampoco han cambiado sus intenciones: sólo quieren, como Johnny
Thunders, que los chicos (y las chicas) bailen. Pero esta vez no te
van a arrastrar a la pista de baile con amenazas y tirándote de los
pelos, más bien te engatusarán para que te plantes en el centro de
la misma por tu propio pie, con una sonrisa, y en tus mejores galas.
Al final, el resultado será el mismo: te acabarán robando la
cartera, y el corazón, los muy canallas. Y tú dándoles las
gracias. |

record is the first of 2 albums Percy Mayfield recorded for Ray
Charles' Tangerine label. A masterful songwriter whose touching
blues ballad "Please Send Me Someone To Love" was a number one
R&B hit in 1950, Mayfield was Ray Charles's favorite author
during the '60s handing him such gems as "Hit The Road Jack" and "At
The Club" and so was signed to the Genius' label. A true master at
expressing the innermost feelings, tangled with vulnerability and
sensibility: "Life Is Suicide" and "River's Invitation" are two
perfect examples that are, along with the wonderful title track, are
both included in this timeless classic. |

La Dolce
Vita, 8 « and Amarcord are three of Fellini's masterworks, and the
films that have made him one of the most brilliant film directors of
the 20th century. 1960's La Dolce Vita, was a film that broke with
the tones of Neorealism to depict a lifestyle of excess and
pleasure, winning Fellini international acclaim (while being
eventually banned in Italy for its scandalous content). 1963's 8 « ,
a film that played with the line between fantasy and reality, was
unanimously praised by fans and critics as Fellini's magnum opus.
1973's Amarcord, literally "I Remember", was exactly that, a
collection of memories from Fellini's childhood in his hometown of
Rimini during Fascism. Considered some of the greatest films of all

of Italy's most prolific and acclaimed composers. Rota is perhaps
most widely known, however, for his soundtrack to Francis Ford

After a few
years spent living in Sweden and touring with Cecil Taylor's Jazz
Unit, Ayler moved to NYC to begin imposing his revolutionary style
of jazz on the world through a number of groundbreaking records.
Spirits, recorded at Atlantic Studios in New York City on 24
February 1964, was his first effort. Recorded a few months prior to
his landmark album for ESP-Disk, Spiritual Unity (but only released
in Europe on Denmark's Debut Records), for the occasion Ayler
recruited Norman Howard (a Cleveland-based trumpeter), well-known
bassist Henry Grimes, drummer and right-hand man Sunny Murray and
the then-unknown bassist Earle Henderson. This historic early
disc is essential Ayler. |

Following a
few years spent living and playing in Scandinavia, an unknown
saxophone player by the name of Albert Ayler returned home to the
USA to begin imposing his revolutionary style of jazz on the world.
Having recorded his debut album, My Name Is Albert Ayler for the
Danish label, Debut Records, this session (which took place in New
York City on 24 February 1964) was his first American effort,
resulting in the eventual release of two albums: Spirits (released
in 1964 on Debut) and Swing Low, Sweet Spiritual, which remained
unissued for 30 years. Here, a quartet featuring Ayler on tenor and
soprano sax, Call Cobbs on piano, Henry Grimes on bass and Sunny
Murray on drums, provide a fresh reading of five well-known African
American spirituals and gospel hymns, plus "Old Man River", taken
from the 1927 musical Show Boat. This is an extremely rare album
from Ayler's early period. |

Recorded
live at the Donaueschingen Music Festival in Germany on October 17,
1971, this rare concert has not been available on vinyl since the
seventies! This recording, while still firmly rooted in the American
free jazz tradition of Ornette Coleman and Albert Ayler (with whom
Don Cherry frequently recorded), brings in elements of traditional
Indian, African, Chinese, Mayan and Balinese music. Of the three
pieces found here, the first two are composed by Cherry and feature
an international group of musicians reminiscent of Sun Ra's Arkestra
(Cherry also recorded with Ra). His son, the three-year-old
Eagle-Eye Cherry, and his wife Moki, can also be heard in some
sections! The final piece was written and conducted by Grammy
Award-winning Polish avant-garde composer Krysztof Penderecki (best
known for his groundbreaking "Threnody to the Victims of
Hiroshima"). |

QUARTET - THE MYSTERY OF BEING (3XLP)
Sun Ra's
legendary 1978 Italian studio sessions, now available together for
the first time ever on vinyl! Long sought-after by collectors, these
extremely rare studio sessions were originally released in 1978 as
two double LPs (New Steps and Other Voices, Other Blues) on the
mysterious Italian jazz label, Horo Records. They have never been
reissued on vinyl (and only partially reissued on CD) until now!
With the help of trumpet player, Michael Ray, drummer, Luqman Ali
and saxophonist John Gilmore, Ra kicks off the quartet sessions with
the classic "My Favorite Things", which features some superlative
playing by Gilmore, while Ra pounds away on an old upright studio
piano. In fact, for the first two sides Ra plays mostly piano, while
on sides C and D, he sticks more to his new Crumar Multiman, an
Italian-made synthesizer that Ra had purchased during the tour.
These sessions are also interesting because they give listeners a
chance to hear Ra concentrating on primarily his own
compositions-many of which (i.e. "Rome At Twilight" "Along The
Tiber") were inspired by his time spent in Italy-but in a more
intimate / Arkestra-less jazz setting. Fans will be clamouring to
get their hands on this before it disappears again for another 30
years. |

Dave
Barker,ÿAlberto Tarin and TheÿJazzin'Reggae Band show in "A Moment
In Time" all of their potential. The legendary Jamaican singer and
the Spanish guitar virtuoso along with a bunch of guests like the
ones of Earl Appleton and Sergio Monleon go over a collection of
committed originals and jazz standard in an intense and contagious
way. Jazz, soul and reggae melt in a well defined stylistic line but
offering a wide diversity of riddims counting with the soulful voice
of Dave Barker on top. Dave Barker needs little introduction but
just in case here go a few lines. Born in Jamaica, as a teen he was
already member of various vocal groups including the first The Two
Tones. In the late 60's he teamed up with Glen Brown recording for
Harry J and Coxsone and he was a member of The Techniques for a
brief period of time. In 1969 he recorded with Lee Perry classics
like Prisoner of Love and Set Me Free. Although Barker had an
outstanding voice Perry insisted in developing his potential as DJ.
And it was in fact one of his DJ screams what Winston Riley used
with veteran organist Ansel Collins to create the smash hit Double
Barrel (top of the pops in UK in 1971 and top 20 in the USA). Duo
Dave & Ansel Collins released a new hit single,ÿMonkey
Spannerÿand an album that remains a classic: Double Barrel and the
Heavy Heavy Monsters Sound of Dave & Ansel Collins. The duo
toured UK intensely and Barker decided to settle down in London.
Since then he continues to record as a solo artist and with friends,
like Bruce Ruffin in soul outfit The Chain Reaction or with 2-tone
revivalists The Selecter. Alberto Tarin neither needs introduction.
He has published three albums with Brixton Records along with his
band The Jazzin' Reggae Bandÿand since 2005 is the official guitar
player of The New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble.ÿÿHis works as session
musician, guest guitar player, composer and producer are
countless. |

Since
forming in 1997, the Appleseed Cast has morphed from one of the
definitive bands of the emo era into a group that has continued to
open up the possibilities of rock music. Whether cloaked in delicate
melodies, atmospherics and instrumental experimentation, or stripped
down to the bands spin on the basics of rock n roll, with each new
recording fans around the world have learned to expect the
unexpected. Middle States seems an appropriate title for the bands
latest release. It could be read as signifying the bands home town
of Lawrence, Kansas (a "middle" state if there ever was one), the
mini-lps place in the trajectory of the bands career, a piece that
alludes to its progress between its gripping seventh album,
Sagargatha (2009) and its already eagerly-anticipated eighth record
(due out on Graveface in early 2012). Or, as the title track
suggests, the middle stages and transitional periods of life. Heard
through the lush, brightly textured harmonies led by singer and
co-founder Chris Crisci, change is a pretty alright thing. For
Middle States, The Appleseed Cast sequestered itself in its own
recording "compound," having fallen in love with the freedom of
crafting records without the time and budget constraints of a
traditional studio during home sessions for Sagarmatha. The relaxed
pace and familiar setting has served the band well. Opening Middle
States is cinematic rocker "End Frigid Constellations," a song that
evokes so many feelings and imagery it seems epic despite its
relative shortness. The finale, "Three Rivers," contains many of the
mini-lps most majestic moments and showcasing the bands live prowess
and tight musicianship. The song marks the band's first completely
improvised release, but with any luck it wont be the last. Middle
States gives insight into a band that is constantly reinventing
itself and growing stronger with each passing year. If the min-lp is
a teaser of things yet to come, we can only say its working
brilliantly |

second studio album by American rock band The Bob Seger System,
released in 1969 . Seger was displeased with this album as it was
the label's intention to showcase Tom Neme as the voice of the band.
Seger contemplated quitting music altogether after this album. It
does however contain the classic Seger title song, which was issued
as a single. The album features the song "Death Row," which was a
holdover from the Ramblin' Gamblin' Man sessions. It was originally
issued as the b-side of the single 2+2=?. The song is significant
for being considered one of many songs released in the late 1960s
that set the foundation for heavier styles of rock, such as heavy
metal. The song is critically acclaimed as being one of the first
"Death Metal" songs. |

1967.This LP was trumpeter Donald Byrd's final album in the hard bop
idiom and it went unissued until 1981. For the last time, Byrd was
heard in prime form in an acoustic format. His notable sextet also
included altoist Sonny Red, baritonist Pepper Adams, pianist Chick
Corea, bassist Miroslav Vitous, and drummer Mickey Roker. With the
exception of Michel Legrand's "I Will Wait for You," all of the
songs were composed by either Byrd, Red, or Corea and, although none
of the originals caught on as standards (or have been performed
since), together as a whole they give one a lot of variety in the
then-modern hard bop field. Pity that this album has been out of
print since the mid-'80s. |

CABALLO TRIPODE es una
banda de Gandía formada por los tres miembros de LE JONATHAN REILLY
(banda que ya editara discos en varios de sellos de todo el mundo y
que es a día de hoy una de las bandas de culto nacionales por
excelencia ) a los que recientemente se les ha unido Jose de LOS
PLATANOS como segunda guitarra. Su primer disco "Horror Vacui" fue
sido mezclado y masterizado por Bob Weston de SHELLAC, fan declarado
de CABALLO TRIPODE, y fue sido editado en USA por Tic Tac Totally y
en España por Holy Cobra Society, cosechando críticas excelente en
publicaciones como ROCKDELUX, VICE MAGAZINE, etc y publicando alguna
canción en Campañas de Fanta y Vice Magazine. Musicalmente pueden
recordar a la inocencia inicial de VIOLENT FEMMES,THE FEELIES o THE
REPLACEMENTS, pero sin duda con un toque propio que puede ser
marciano, melancólico, o de rabia. Ahora, en 2011, presentan al

since their inception in 1993 have the CELLOPHANE SUCKERS wreaked
rock'n'roll havoc all over Europe. The guys from Cologne have played
with everyone from the DIRTYS to the NEW BOMB TURKS, from the ONYAS
to the EGOS, from THE HELLACOPTERS to Sonny Vincent and with their
buddies MOORAT FINGERS, DUMBELL and the JET BUMPERS. Five
full-lengths and a number of 7"s saw the light of day. In june 2010,
the Cellophane Suckers recorded a bunch of new tracks on two
weekends only at the BeX studio in Cologne, maximum 3 takes gave
maxmum live feeling. Mixed and mastered over the summer. Album
number six - "ONE IN THE ZOO" will be released in December 2010 on
the band's own High Noon Records. 11 Tracks made it to the record,
including a homage to Australia's best RNR combo - The Onyas ( "Hit
You Up The Guts") and a Suckers' style version of the Stones

Lou
Donaldson's undisputed masterpiece, Blues Walk, marks the point
where the altoist began to decisively modify his heavy Charlie
Parker influence and add a smoky, bluesy flavor of his own. The
material is still firmly in the bebop vein, and the mellower moments
aren't as sleepy as some of Donaldson's subsequent work, so the
album sounds vital and distinctive even as it slows down and loosens
things up. That makes it the definitive release in Donaldson's
early, pre-soul-jazz period, but what elevates Blues Walk to classic
status is its inviting warmth. Donaldson's sweetly singing horn is
ingratiating and melodic throughout the six selections, making even
his most advanced ideas sound utterly good-natured and accessible.
The easy-swinging title cut is a classic, arguably Donaldson's
signature tune even above his late-'60s soul-jazz hits, and his
other two originals -- "Play Ray" and "Callin' All Cats" -- are in
largely the same vein. Elsewhere, Donaldson displays opposite
extremes of his sound; the up-tempo bebop classic "Move" provokes
his fieriest playing on the record, and his romantic version of
"Autumn Nocturne" is simply lovely, a precursor to Lush Life. The
addition of Ray Barretto on conga is a subtle masterstroke, adding
just a bit more rhythmic heft to the relaxed swing. There are
numerous likable records in Donaldson's extensive catalog, but Blues
Walk is the best of them all. |

The
FIGURINES from Denmark, formed in the mid-1990s. The band released
their first EP, The Detour, in 2001 and their first full-length
album, Shake a Mountain, in 2004. The band began to receive national
attention in Denmark around the time of the full-length release, and
began touring Germany in 2003. Their second full-length, Skeleton,
was released in 2005 on Danish label Morningside Records ( Germany:
Pop-U-Loud, US: The Control Group in 2006) The band began a North
American tour after being nominated for a Canadian Music Week Indie
award and has since performed at the Indies ceremony SXSW, KEXP and
regular in the US, Canada, and Europe. The band has also received
positive press from Medias like Pitchfork Media, The New York Times
and Spin, among others. FIGURINES sound has been most often compared
to that of Pavement, Modest Mouse and Built To Spill. The band
released their third record When the Deer Wore Blue in 2007 with
Chicago-based co-producer/engineer Jeremy Lemos, who has worked with
Smog, Jim O'Rourke, Loose Fur, and many other Windy City acts in the
past. The new material is more psychedelic than previous efforts,
but remains faithful to the melodic-pop sounds of Skeleton and Shake

Lost songs from the forbidden discography of "Irans Daughter"
comprisng forgotten B-Sides and mythical LP tracks.Unrequited love
songs and poetic premonitions of impeding cultural heartbreak meet
radical Arabic takes on jazz, bossa, orch funk and early disco
fuelled by generations of Persian poetic verse. The East's best kept
secret? Despite her reputation as one of the most well-known and
beloved songbirds from the East, Faegheh Atashin AKA Googoosh is,
ironically, also the performer of some of the rarest, heart-melting
pop music in the world. Originally pressed on the diminishing vinyl
format her 1970's songs and performances were banned after the
Iranian revolution of 1979 resulting in her records being forbidden,
hidden and destroyed. Some of Googooshs most famous songs have since
become anthemic amongst global Iranian communities, but in darker
contrast dozens of 45 B-side's and album tracks remain as distant
and nonexistent memories in the mind of the most devout fans and
fastidious vinyl librarians. Finders Keepers' first Googoosh release
focuses on a handful of these lesser-spotted tracks - the ones that
didn't get away. Googoosh's voice conveys an urgency and yearning
which is arguably unrivalled under the often disposable femme-pop
umbrella. Mid-tempo pulsating pop peons awash with expertly
orchestrated strings (akin to that of some of the most intense
European film composers) provide the backdrop for unrequited love
songs revealing poetic premonitions of impeding cultural heartbreak.
Other tracks combine unlikely jazz, bossa and early disco influences
unconsciously inducing political paranoia from the era's brooding
anti-pop regime. Boasting a deep-rooted history of Persian poetic
verse and indelible Arabic songcraft these lost tracks, from the
artist known amongst Farsi speaking fans as Iran's Daughter, have

Ramona was Jordan Geiger's bedroom-pop debut album, then Lonely Twin
is the sound of Geigers Hospital Ships solo project moving up to a
three-room suite. Exploding outward on album opener "Love Or Death,"
Geiger gives voice to those "...on the outside, always looking in,"
while injecting enough electronic beats, buzzing organ riffs, and
joyous handclaps to elevate this sophomore Hospital Ships album from
modest humility to self-assured confidence. Perhaps thats because
Geiger, a native of Lawrence, Kansas, former member of Shearwater
and the Appleseed Cast, and principal member of the now-defunct
Minus Story, has taken the fractured Midwestern influences of The
Flaming Lips and Bright Eyes to fresh new heights. "Honey Please" is
a rollicking slice of queasy, off-kilter rock, but tender tracks
like "Bird In Furs" and "Phantom Limb" revisit Geigers bedroom

First album single "Carry On," available in a limited run of 300
pink vinyl units, is pristine and sparse, a classic for any musical
age that hinges on Geigers appeals to live life without
reservations: "We will laugh till we cry and drink till were drunk.
To all of the songs that I wished I had sung, you will ring in my
ears till my days are done." Yet the song rises up from Geigers
bedside table, climaxing with buzz saw electric guitars that hint at
stomping anthem "Reprise," which implores the attuned Hospital Ships
listener to "Hold this hope in your heart." Lonely Twin also alights
in AM pop, doom rock, and dusty folk territory, but through it all,
Jordan Geiger maintains a balance between optimism and desperation,

t's the mid
70s, and Kool & Co not only keep the funky groove up, but also
expand their style into a moogy style that adds a nice dimension of
spacey soul to their rich palette of funk. The funkier cuts - like
"Street Corner Symphony" and "Rhyme Tyme People" - sound a bit too
much like the hits from earlier albums, but are still pretty nice.
But it's the synth heavy cuts - like "Whiting H&G", and the
landmark "Summer Madness" - which really open up the record. They're
great stuff, and have the group moving into a spacey otherworldly
funk realm that had been opened up a few years earlier by Earth Wind
& Fire. The long-lasting potential of "Summer Madness" proves
that the move was a great one - and we're always stunned at how
fantastic the track still sounds today! |

Maximillian was a New York-based African-American hard rock/psych
trio, featuring the talents of singer Buzzy Bowzer (aka
Maximillian), lead guitarist Mojack Maximillian, and bassist Moby
Medina (aka Moby Maximillian). ((okay the bassist was Puerto Rican.)
The band somehow attracted the attention of producer/writer Teddy
Vann who helped them score a contract with ABC. The result was
1969's Vann-produced "Maximillian". With Bowzer writing most of the
eight tracks, the resulting album was surprisingly
unaccomplished. |

Apparently
when this album was originally released in 1972, confused and
bewildered fans, expecting more of the same found on Transa,
released earlier that year, returned the album to the shop,
demanding a refund. Meanwhile, critics raved, and many now consider
Araçá Azul, known as Veloso's "experimental album" to be one of his
great creative moments. To be fair to his many fans, it was a stark
departure from his previous releases, which were decidedly more pop,
but Veloso had been through a lot recently, having just returned
from political exile in the UK, so it is no wonder that the artist
was feeling a bit like he needed to fly in the face of conformity.
In Veloso's own words, "I made this album without thinking, without
taking the time to stop to think." He refers to the album's
"insolent experimentalism" and calls it a kind of "last
stand". |

'Euston Station' and 'David Cassidy.' The latter was featured on
last years Rough Trade comp 'Indiepop 09'. BETTY AND THE WEREWOLVES
are Laura McMahon on Vox/Guitar, Helen Short on Guitar/
Vox/Keyboards, Emily Bennet on Bass/vox and Doug McFarlane on drums.
Formed in 2007 and are three girls and one boy from London and
Cambridge who whoop and howl through the night as their sweetly sung
melodies collide with glitter-struck punk guitars. Taking
inspiration from luminary lycanthropes Virginia Woolf and Grandma
Wolf, they sing ditties about falling in love with David Cassidy and
strange encounters on night buses, shouting all the while and
scuffing up their party shoes. They signed with Damaged Goods after
a supporting Holly Golightly at the 100 Club in London and set of to
Gizzard studios in east London to record their first two singles,
then after a year or so of writing songs they recorded this album
with Jon at Onecat studios in Brixton after a tip from fellow
indiepopper Amelia Fletcher. The album is a great mix of indiepop
and shouty punky pop songs with great lyrics and boundless energy.
After a lot of stress over the cover it was decided that a selection
of tea and cakes would fit the bill and we think it does the job
too. |

Harding. The band have once more created a superb spaced-out
selection of 60s inspired dance floor tracks: Northern Soul vibes
with Black Eye, garage sounds with The Bloater, Boogaloo with Pies
and Pastiche and even samba with Full Brazilian. Big Boss Man have
also worked on numerous other projects including remixes for Paul
Weller (The Bottle), a solo project from Nasser as The Bongolian
(three albums The Bongolian, Blueprint, Outer Bongolia for Blow Up)
on which he played all the instruments himself. Following the
inclusion on the Thievery Corporations Outernational Sound
compilation, Big Boss Mans dancefloor favourite Sea Groove was
sampled for and features throughout the track The Numbers Game on
the Thievery Corporations latest album Radio Retaliation in 2008 as
well as being used by the Red Cross for a nationwide campaign in the
USA this year. The original 7" version of Sea Groove now valued at
25 in the official Record Collector guide - although thats if you

By Mountains is the second album from Pogues bass player Darryl Hunt
under the monika Bish. Although The Pogues (www.pogues.com) are
always recognised for the quality of their wayward frontman Shane
MacGowan's bawdily brilliant songs, they actually have several
quality writers in their ranks. Jem Finer, Phil Chevron and Darryl
Hunt have all contributed and Hunt's song Love Her Till The End was
recently used in the popular movie P.S I Love You(www.psiloveyoumovie.com). Darryl
Hunt's Song Love Her Till The End Featured in the Movie P.S I Love
You Encouraged by this success, Hunt has written ten unassuming, but
consistently fine tunes for Surrounded By Mountains. It's his second
album under the Bish moniker and it finds him moving to centre stage
to sing and play rhythm guitar instead of accepting his customary
role on bass. An established team player, Hunt has brought in
guitarist Knut Knutson, bassist Bernd Hartwich and drummer Andreas
Hohne to establish Bish's group identity. Long-term indie stalwart
Debsey Wykes (ex-Dolly Mixture) also acts as a sympathetic vocal
foil on several key tracks such as Cynthia and the fuzzy, Velvet
Underground-style pop of World Turns Around You. Musically, the
album's bittersweet, jangly pop sound is closer to literate indie
outfits like The Go-Betweens and Spearmint than The Pogues. Jaunty
tunes like Call My Name and Tale of Two Cities have folky, two-step
rhythms, but Hunt's gentle, personal songs burrow under the
listener's skin on their own terms. Indeed, only the hardest heart
could deny the lovely innocence of a song like I Just Want To Hold
You. Hunt has a likeably easy vocal delivery. He's hardly a natural
frontman, but his laconic voice has a touch of The Lightning Seeds'
Ian Broudie and his inherent world-weariness is ideal for break-up
songs such as Feel A Lot Better or the acoustic intimacy of Blue

The very
welcome return of Fabienne Delsol with her 3rd solo album, a follow
up to 2007's "Between You And Me." Originally from Limoges in
France, Fabienne was formerly the lead singer of legendary London
garage band The Bristols and has been living and working in London
with husband Liam Watson (Toe Rag Studios) since 1996. Put together
in studio down-time and ably backed by Toe Rag's stable of
musicians,"On My Mind" features Fabienne's customary mixture of both
English and French lyrics sung with plenty of coquettish charm. With
songs and production so authentically 60's they could have been
taken from tapes gathering dust in Serge Gainsbourg's garage for the
last 40 years. The album marks something of a departure from the
jaunty beat-pop and ye-ye of her previous albums however, there's a
definite autumnal feel to several of the tracks, putting you in mind
of what the much mooted Francoise Hardy/Nick Drake collaboration
might have yielded. Lyrically the bulk of the album deals with the
melancholic side of love and has a slightly trippy and introspective
edge. Most notably on "Strange Shadows" and the title track "On my
Mind" with its phased drums and "Strawberry Fields" style moog
motifs. You're unlikely to hear a better record this autumn! Here

Ryan Driver
is this unstoppable, quietly torrential flow of music, that has been
coming out of Toronto, Ontario for a number of years now. He's been
a key member of a number of the most interesting ensembles in the
city, including Deep Dark United, The Reveries, The Silt
(FIRECD127), the Guayaveras, The Fake New Age Music Band, he's
worked with Sandro Perri as the duo Double Suicide and Jennifer
Castle in Castlemusic, and he has his own mutant jazz standards
group, The Ryan Driver Quartet. He plays guitar and sings, but he's
also an accomplished improviser, and he can break your heart
improvising on a twangy ruler or blowing onto the surface of a
rubber balloon. Despite this, you have to listen carefully to hear
Ryan, not because he's difficult to hear, but because he's not about
to show himself off. He's there if you want to hear him. And now,
this is his first solo record, which features some songs he's been
singing for a while. The songs here are mostly folk/country ballads
from an imaginary country: they sound like JJ Cale, Joao Gilberto,
John Martyn, soft but powerful and precise. But there's also live
favorite "Spinning Towers" which is given an anthemic rock
treatment, and "Why the Road?" which slowly shifts from folksong to
hazy "Rock Bottom" period Robert Wyatt mysticism. Toronto's alt.folk
queen Jennifer Castle duets with Ryan on the opening "You Are Beside
Me". Various members of the Rat-Drifting group, including Eric
Chenaux and Martin Arnold drop in to play some guitar too. Ryan
always sounds like he has come a long way to sing you a song. His
voice contains vast North American distances, long cold winters, the
endless ugly monotony of the country, which can be broken and
dissipated only by beer, love and music. He is always arriving too
late or too early, and what he sings about is always to be found
somewhere else, somewhere where he's not. Even when he sings jazz
standards, the music isn't nostalgic or pessimistic, in fact you
can't tell whether he's talking about the past or the future. Soft,
sad, determined . the fact that he's here now, singing these songs
is, for those that need such things, a sign of great hope. And
that's why this really is a "Feeler of Pure Joy". |

something in the raw cows milk one can so fortuitously procure here
in Western Massachusetts, or maybe its that lysergic haze of
Berkshire foothill emanation, but whatever it may be, it is most
definitely in manifestation as the five-headed rock n noise n bleet
n zzrrp n roll n weirdcore phenomenon known only as FAT WORM OF
ERROR. After more than six years of live gig decimation and
confusion and a smattering of cassettes, cdrs, "legit" LP releases
(on labels as swank as LOAD and Ultra Eczema), FWOE has become,
along with Noise Nomads and Dinosaur Jr, as one of the most
astounding musical whatsis factors in the Pioneer Valley. It was
after being stunned into melted delight one evening at our local
hang (the Flywheel natch) by the dead battery guitar, silent
psycho-killer bass, drums punked beyond the free thump joy of John
Stevens n Drumbo, and the supremely swinging costume-cuhraziness of
the FREEKwency singer.well, we wanted to do a, ahem, "proper" LP.
Put this genius fringe into the studio with Justin Pizzoferrato
(thats right, the guy who helps engineer J Mascis and T Moore sides)
and capture the delirious magic of FWOE in their inimitable prime.
And we did! And Mark Beyer did the cover art! And the drummers name
is Neel Young! And this LP rules HARD, and if you happened to be in
the same room as the live FWOE this last summer than you know: Fat
Worm of Error has got the coolest moustache in town. Case

"Faust is last" are: Hans Joachim Irmler, Jan Fride, Steven W.
Lobdell, Lars Paukstat, Michael Stoll. If faust announce a last
record after 40 years then it might be a good idea to open up the
ears, especially when the cover art is one big reference to their
first record. The x-rayed "fist" appears again, this time with the
fingers slightly more opened. 40 years lie between the two records.
40 years of many different line ups, record companies, financial
disasters, artistic failures and successes. Whatever can happen to a
band has happened to Faust. In that sense they are not an unusual
group of musicians. What is unusual is that each project, each
record, each concert over the last 40 years has been different. On
the very first record they made clear (on clear vinyl) that they
were in it for destruction. "All you need is love" and
"Satisfaction" symbolically were set fire to. That same fire you
will hear on this new & last Faust record. The circle will be
closed by more circular music. A music that seems to come out of
nowhere, sonic descriptions rather than songs. Timeless and not
rooted in specific places and/or traditions. Maybe influenced by
Cage's idea of chance, Dada, cut-ups, Sun Ra's free jazz organ
playing and the second attempt after the German-American Monks to
represent "a rock group as total artwork". faust in 1970 and in 2010
sound aggressive and 100 percent oriented towards the future. There
is not a glimpse of nostalgia in "Faust is last". Turn up the volume
and listen to this first, new and last Faust record very
loud! |

Adam Franklin was the singer, guitarist and main songwriter for
London-based Swervedriver; contemporaries of and label mates with My
Bloody Valentine and Ride but with a more adrenalized rock n roll
sound, showing flashes of Husker Du and Sonic Youth. Then from 1999
to 2006 Adam recorded and toured as Toshack Highway, a gentler but
no less inventive folky/electronic/film-soundtracky hybrid,

singles and the like. In 2007 an album that had started out as the
next Toshack Highway release became the first album to be released
under the moniker Adam Franklin and was titled Bolts of Melody.

Magnetic Morning, his new collaboration with Sam Fogarino of
Interpol, and record - with the Bolts of Melody band - the second

broken on Bolts and is a more direct, varied and satisfying album
than ever before. The power and melody that has always coursed
through the veins of Adams electric songs is in full effect on tunes

Tar Prophecies IV, Grails re-awaken the series that initially began
the run of records that mapped their rise to the forefront of modern
instrumental music. While recording their full-length records with
an eye towards cohesion and epic production, the Black Tar series
affords Grails a backdoor to a black lodge where they can explore
total head music. With a more lawless atmosphere and an overtly dark
aesthetic, Black Tar's relentless re-mixing and sonic juxtapositions
return the listening experience to a more innocent position, where
expectations can be exploded and insidious sentiments come dressed
in gently poisonous forms. In this volume Grails combine backmasked
Satanic tape collage with old Emmanuelle soundtracks, pushing them
further in the direction of a classical Italian melodrama
soundtracked by Nurse with Wound. The Black Tar material is
conceived slowly, in between tours and full-length albums, giving
Black Tar its own experimental space and keeping its final sum
unknown even to its practitioners. As before, the series' format
will consist of 2 vinyl EPs and an eventual CD version featuring
both EPs and any extra tracks completed in the meantime. Like the
slab of black slate in the opening of Kubrick's 2001, Black Tar is
an attempt to bring the ritual act of music back to it's original

Hopewell
has never been a band too concerned with classification. For more
than a decade, they have been at turns ornate, primitive, fired up,
lashing out, beautiful, burly, blue, white hot, sardonic and sweet.
And through an impressive amalgam of talent and a knack for twisting
the component parts of the rock eras most inventive music, they have
concocted studio works that evade description and sink hooks in grey
matter few other bands find. For any listener who has tracked the
arc of Hopewells output, their arrival at this particular
convergence of studio/song architecture and lead-heavy rocking,
makes perfect freaking sense. Their first three LPs were beautiful
sonic traffic jams that spanned the psych-glam of Ziggy Stardust
Bowie and Janes Addiction, tattered, heartworm, heavy mountain jams,
and a mad scientists approach to production that evoked images of Dr
Frankenstein and George Martin playing 3-D Chinese checkers in the
depths of Abbey Road. John Peel himself took note, gave them a
session of their own and the press took notice. They hot the road
and played with just about everybody - most recently (and
heroically) opening for the hyperdecibeled hydra that is My Bloody
Valentine. Good Good Desperation is a chameleon of the most sincere,
beautiful and rocking sort - the sum of a decade long exploration
swirled through the funnel cloud of Atom Heart Mother, Ege Bamyasi,
Odyssesy & Oracle and Nothings Shocking, and broadcast through a

Jailbreak
is the duo of pedal steel/vocalist Heather Leigh and drummer Chris
Corsano. The name foregrounds the kind of outlaw violence with which
the two reformulate rock/roll instants by bringing free jazz fire
power to amp-humping sex beats. Their musical alliance goes all the
way back to the legendary Brattleboro Free Folk Fest, the birthplace
of the New Weird America, where Corsano and his long-term saxophone
partner Paul Flaherty joined Leigh and Christina Carter for a
quartet show that took the roof off the building and the skin off
their fingers. Since then Corsano and Leigh have worked together as
part of Taurpis Tula and as members of Thurston Moores Dream/Aktion
Unit. So, who better to describe this 700 edition debut LP, than Mr.
Flaherty: For those of you who've been worried that the Free Power
Noize scene has become a little too tame, (and seriously who isn't
somewhat concerned about that), a new screamin' creamin' duo --
Jailbreak -- expoldes to the rescue. The Rocker is a blast-furnace
of blisteringly joyous witch-howling assaults on the essence of
whips and chains and repressive injustice gone legal. Both of these
magisterial musicians are capable of extreme dynamics and
subtleties, but those concepts don't get in the way of this
monster-truck of a record. |

Jones intones "Here we go, nice and slow...The opening track of the
debut album, Princess & The Frog was released on 8/6/09 with a
previously unreleased JJR master blaster Freak of Nature on the
reverse. It takes the traditional Grimms fairy tale and spins it on
its head with an injection of filthy sleaze. The track kicks off
with a distorted broken down honky tonk piano before the rest of the
band crash in sounding like The JBs if theyd swapped horns for
guitars. The Jim Jones Revue have been described as sounding like a
car crash between Little Richard and The MC5 and "Princess and The

From the
Eastern-tinged pop flirt of "Starstruck" to the near 10 minute
cosmic groove-trip that is "Solar System", the new album from this
excellent group finds them on top form and taking a big leap from
their previous, Norwegian Grammy nominated, album. A sharper and
more focused effort without a weak track in sight, "Futuro" is both
industrial and rough as well as polished and streamlined. There are
nods to fellow Norwegians 120 Days as well as Stereolab, Can, Doors,
Joy Divison and even B 52s, but first of all this is a group that
have perfected their own sound from album to album and through
periods of extensive touring. Founded in 2001 in Haugesund on the
westcoast of Norway, they have been called the band with one foot in
Pompeii and one in space. With their first three albums released
from 2002 to 2006, they have developed from being a searching
instrumental lo-fi-post-rock band that Pitchfork dubbed
"Psych-Garage Dronemeisters" to a fullblown, focused and fresh
sounding rock ensemble with great songs and a mix of dark
atmospheres and catchy choruses. Lie, Haaland and Andersen are
founding members while Clementsen (22) and Frkedal (21) both joined
ranks before the recording of "Futuro". Clementsen and Frkedal are
also members of up and coming group Megaphonic Thrift. Guest
musicians include Rune Grammofon affiliates Nils kland and Kjetil
Mster (Ultralyd) and the album is produced by wonderboy Jrgen Tren
(Jaga Jazzist, Kaizers Orchestra, The National Bank, Sondre Lerche).
Their previous album from 2006 was nominated for a Norwegian Grammy

first live performances in 2002, Sean McBride, aka Martial Canterel
(who also performs as half of the duo Xeno & Oaklander), has
produced a rich catalog of self-released and limited edition LPs,
cassettes, and compilation tracks. The carefully crafted, private,
raw, and often feverishly aggressive 'minimal synth' sound he has
pioneered has been a pillar influence for the Brooklyn minimal
electronics scene and and beyond. Merging the influences of the
first wave of relatively unknown minimal electronic bands in
northern Europe, and seminal industrial noise bands such as
Throbbing Gristle and SPK, with the smoothly stylish songcraft of
early British New Wave, Martial Canterel records and performs using
analogue synthesizers, sequencers and drum machines exclusively.
Thoughtful yet distinctly danceable and infectious, this record is
the apex of McBride's icily idiosyncratic sound. You Today
incorporates bright, urgent melodies that snake and and swagger
between major and minor keys. The songs emanate a subtle melancholic
darkness and a rhythmic, militant propulsion keeping things moving
against all odds. Lyrically, the album continues McBride's
exploration of the increasing difficulty in trying to connect with
real people and real things as technology renders the material
substance of bodies and objects ever more abstract and distant. The
solitary listener can certainly enjoy the music of Martial Canterel,

The debut
album from prog/folk troupe Men/An/Tol.Having lived in Whitechapel
at the same time as street artist Adam Neate, Men/An/Tol chanced
upon one of his street/bound creations and - when Neate became
famous - sold it for £4,000.The result of such serendipity is this
sparkling record, where the five/piece straddle a whole host of
sounds. Recorded live, this riot of fluid guitars, inter/locking
vocals and tribal rhythms is steeped in folk tradition yet a product
of "a world gone wrong". There's even an eerie symmetry with
Britfolk godfathers Pentangle - if not sonically then in terms of
their approach to recruiting personnel. Much like Jansch and
Renbourne sought out the ideal rhythm section in order to marry jazz
leanings to their folk outlook, Men/An/Tol also searched long and
hard for a drummer, finding their own ideal odern dance rhythm
specialist' in Susumu Mukai. He joins the core line/up of Pete
Mackenzie, Richie Crago, Lucie Wren and Mike Murphy. Men/An/Tol's
fractured gaze is in part pollinated thanks to the seeds of the
Canterbury scene, just as much as it owes to Britfolk brethren<
theirs is a sprawling folk gambit flowering alongside more than a
hint of prog and psychedelia, making for a unique and bewitching
bloom.With their roots stemming from the likes of Mike Heron and
COB, there's a real cross/section of folk/infused sounds here that
at times are almost medieval sounding, out of their time but never

prepared to undergo the NWW treatment. As with the companion release
to this album, The Bacteria Magnet, Nurse With Wound are currently
set on a creative trajectory that dismantles the auditory
iconography of the fifties, marauding through eerie re-renderings of
jazz club instrumentals, electroacoustic traffic sounds and skewed
torch songs. As NWW albums go, this is probably among the more
outwardly approachable releases, but in fact it's the very proximity
to the language of pop music that makes Huffin' Rag Blues all the
more subversive.. |

and Nick Drake. Charlie Parrs seventh album of raw, soul-piercing
Piedmont-style blues is a true joy to behold. Only three of these
twelve finger picked guitar and banjo tracks are traditionals
arranged by Parr, but youd never know it. The feeling, experience
and sheer talent ranks Parrs compositions right up there with the
classics. Its no surprise that he counts among his fans the
illustrator R. Crumb and slow-core rockers Low. Charlies music has
an appeal that spans genres. From old folkies, punks, soccer moms,
indie kids to everyone in-between, the authentic voice and utter
lack of pretence of the music speaks to everyone. While some may be
tempted to class Parr with novelty acts like as Seasick Steve, there
is only the most superficial of similarities in their music. Hes
considered "one of the most important contemporary protagonists of
the American folk tradition" by the Bath International Music
Festival, and its no surprise. Charlies songs are records of the

industry ballyhoo garnered from their intense live set, Priestess
signed a deal in 2004 and released what is widely regarded as one of
Canadas greatest hard rock debuts ever, Hello Master. Unlike most
hard rock/metal bands that rely solely on ballast and blast to sear
their message into gray matter, Priestess had a special trick up
their sleeve - they could write a song that could walk the rope
between being infectious and downright vicious. Armed with far more
hooks than your average metal band, their unique style of driven
melody with metal muscle and Marshall stack attack quickly earned
them a die-hard fan base weary of death metal grunts and metal
cliches. Their incessant touring included playing with such heavy
hitters as Black Label Society, Mastodon, Converge and Motorhead ,
equally comfortable sharing a stage with Iron Maiden as they were
with Di-nosaur Jr. 2007 was a watershed year for the band with even
more touring , including a support slot in the UK with Megadeth and
reaching more people when their songs "Lay Down" was featured in
Guitar Hero III : Legends Of Rock. The band spent Autumn 2008 in Los
Angeles under the watchful eye of pro-ducer David Schiffman (System
Of A Down, Mars Volta, Nine Inch Nails), recording their crowning

Rio en Medio is Santa
Fe, New Mexico resident Danielle Stech-Homsy. She
released her debut album "The Bride of Dynamite" on Devendra
Banhart's Gnomonsong label in early 2007. After extensive touring in
the US and Europe with CocoRosie, Grizzly Bear and Quinn Walker,
Danielle retreated to her New Mexico home to start on "Frontier".
The LP was released on Manimal Vinyl in October 2008 and this
'deluxe edition' CD will include three previously unreleased bonus
tracks and a video for the track "The Umbrella". In just the passed
year, Danielle has performed or collaborated with a wide variety of
outstanding artists, including Devendra, Vetiver, CocoRosie,
Tarantula A.D., Tim Fite and Larry Yes, among others. In addition,
she recently appeared at England's All Tomorrows' Parties Festival.
Now, with the album release imminent, Danielle is already getting
busy on her next projects. There are whispers of a collection of
dance tracks in the works. She has alluded to a collaborative album
with Tim Fite. As she gains momentum, Danielle is sure to surprise
both herself and her audience, inspiring renewed faith in the power
of a song to transform the reality of its listener. Danielle's
songwriting reflects a vast scope of influence from techno to
traditional folk to early and contemporary classical, drawing on
literature as well as music, from ancient to avant, and
incorporating elements of chance. Her crystalline vocals, delicately
strummed baritone ukulele and found sonic elements evoke the strange

Simon, best known for his work as the guitarist and singer for the
seminal heavy psych band known as Dead Meadow, releases his first
solo record (Tee Pee). It is a stripped down and intimate record
filled with intricate guitar work and poignant well-thought lyrics.
Some songs are filled with dark brooding drones. Others songs
leisurely carry the listener down meandering rivers as they slowly
develop in their own unhurried way. There are slight shades of Bert
Jansch, Leonard Cohen, Sandy Bull, and Townes Van Zandt but only
shades as it is most certainly its own thing. It is a record to
remind the listener that heavy does not come from loud distortion
and huge drums but comes from the depth within the song itself.

Youth's eponymous debut EP, reissued in a deluxe double- LP edition
on the band's own Goofin imprint, was recorded in late 1981 at Radio
City Music Hall in NYC and originally released on composer Glenn
Branca's Neutral label. The album is loosely based on compositions
the newly formed group had performed at that year's week-long
Noisefest event (and remains the only recorded document of an early
line-up featuring actor Richard Edson on drums). The newly

The mists
of Spindrift began casting their hypnotic haze upon the eastern
shores of the US in 1992. For the next decade, the captain of the
mothership, singer/songwriter/guitar-slinger, Kirpatrick Thomas (aka
K.P.), sailed the sonic sea, letting the music carry him and his
band to faraway places to perform for audiences around the world.
Eight records later, Kirpatrick felt the undeniable pull of the west
and ventured into the sunset in search of a new world. Spindrift
"west" would be born and a new psychedelic western revival movement
would begin. With Spindrifts penchant for creating epic cinematic
soundtracks, it comes as no surprise that the band has also embarked
on a vision quest of their own, with the creation of a feature film,
The Legend Of Gods Gun. At the heart of the artfully shot
independent feature film directed by Mike Bruce, which was inspired
by 60s era spaghetti western movies, is the psychedelic sounds of
Spindrift. Both haunting and hallucinogenic, the soundtrack takes
the listener on a cosmic journey through the desert as a preacher
turned gunslinger sets out for a vengeance. With a guitar in one
hand and a six-shooter in the other, neo-cosmic cowboy Kirpatrick
Thomas and his current band of banditos resurrect the spirits of
Ennio Morricone and Bruno Nicolai and combines them with the ghosts
of Velvet Underground and Jim Morrison, weaving a dusty backdrop to
a story of sin and salvation in the wild west. |

This is one

have been playing raw and primal garage punk music all over London
for the last three years in any venue, party or street that will
take them. After forming in 2007, members, Ben Edge (Guit/Vox) Dan
May (bass) and Steve Coley (drums) quickly gained a reputation for
their energetic and unpredictable live performances. They met up
with Liam Watson from ToeRag studios in 2009 and recorded a few
tracks of which two tracks came out as a limited one off 7" on 1965
records in late 2009. After a successful European tour in spring
2010 they set off recording their debut album, Taped Up which is now

Freezing
out the heat-seeking Miami scene with his cold minimal synth for the
past decade, Ramiro Jeancarlo (1/2 of the industrial outfit Opus
Finis) offers up 10 tracks of analogue darkness. Sung in both
English and Spanish, the forthcoming album is informed by
Jeancarlo's half Chilean, half Venezuelan background. Pervasive
throughout the LP is an aura of dread and claustrophobia that
without a doubt evokes the brutally hot, dry, lonely landscape of
suburban South Florida. But beyond the dismal swamplands, it's
possible to detect the mournful ambiance of cultures plagued for
centuries by colonization, civil war and political turmoil. Whether
Jeancarlo means to offer "Salvation Through Suffering" as an
alternative to everything from Catholicism to
revolutions-turned-tyrannies is not explicit, but the distinctive
mood of dread conjures something more monolithic than plain
nihilism. Therein lies the fascinating duality: "Lost Image" could
as easily land in a soundtrack to a film about a lonesome teen in
desolate suburbia as it could a film about Pinochet's Caravan of
Death. Despite the disorienting feeling of so much of the album,
Staccato's own coup d'tat comes in the moments of resolution where
warm melodies and nearly psychedelic soundscapes counter the
bleakness. On "Desespero," Jeancarlo's pleas to "let me in, I want
in" are frighteningly forward but made inviting against a danceable
and very accessible synthpop background. The instrumental "En Sueos"
has a sweetly bright melody atop sinister beats that plumb the
depths, while the synthesizers in "Happy Endings" happily climb into
major dimensions as the signature darkness shines through. Staccato
du Mal's music is rich with sonic feeling that makes for infinitely
rewarding listening. Working within the confines of the minimal
synth genre, Jeancarlo manages to include elements of pop, noise,
and industrial that slink to the surface with each eerie

Of course,
the band - Dinosaur Jr.s J.Mascis (drums/guitar/vocals); Cobra
Verdes Tim Parnin (guitar); John Petkovi (vocals/guitar) and Witchs
Dave Sweetapple (bass/vocals) - eschews the whole "supergroup" tag.
Sweet Apple was born by accident and friendship - out of death,
after a cross-country drive. Singer-guitarist John Petkovic got in
his car heading eastward days after the passing of his mother - to
smoke cigarettes, listen to music and clear his head. He ended up in
New England, the home of long-time friends Dave Sweetapple and
J.Mascis, who told John to start writing some songs so they could
start a band. Within weeks, and after recruiting Cobra Verde
guitarist Tim Parnin they started working on an album. The 12-song
disc casts a wide net, reflecting the disparate sounds of all their
bands: catchy power-pop, crushing rock and wounding ballads.
Recorded in Cleveland and Massachusetts, the album was mixed by John
Agnello (Dinosaur Jr/Sonic Youth/The Hold Steady) and Don Dephew
(Cobra Verde/Guided By Voices). "I tell people that I saved Johns
life by starting this band," says Mascis. "But they dont believe
me." |

"Hypnoticon" is the first new release by Londons Teeth of
the Sea since their acclaimed debut album Orphaned by the Ocean.
Since their debut was released Teeth of the Sea have been taking
their unique sound around the UKs stages and blowing-away acolytes
whilst touring with the likes of Oneida, Wooden Shjips and The
Heads. Now Rocket Recordings are proud to introduce Hypnoticon, an
EP of new material from Teeth of the Sea. The EP kicks off with the
track In the Space Capsule (Love Theme), and Queen fans amongst us
will recognise this track as a cover version of a track from the
Flash Gordon soundtrack. The band covered the entire album in front
of the film (and in costume) on New Years Eve 2009, and this track
struck such a nerve that it became the opener of their live set, and
was thus committed spectacularly to posterity. Those of you that
witnessed their sets on the recent Oneida tour may recognise the
second track Hypnoticon Viva as their set closer. An in-your-face
keyboard-driven psychedelic juggernaut, it combines a formidable
acid-fried propulsion with a white-light rock imperative that joins
the cosmic dots between Spacemen 3 and Iron Maiden to euphoric
effect. Finally, we have the track The Island is, a 11 minute
travelogue of haunting ambience and panoramic melancholia that
showcases Teeth of the Sea at their most mournful, cinematic and
otherworldly. This EP is a forerunner to the second Teeth of the Sea
album which is due to hit the racks early summer June
2010. |

The Vermin
Poets are Neil Palmer on Guitar/Lyre/vox Billy Childish on
Bass/Backing Vox JuJu Claudius on drums/Backing Vox and Wolf Howard
on Drums but dont think this is just another Billy Childish band cos
its not. The sound is very pop psychedelic, think of 80s Television
Personalities and chuck in The Who and youve got it. A small tour is
planned for the spring as well as a launch gig at the ICA in London.
We are vermin - V...E...ERMIN . The Vermin Poets are the
self-discovered heirs to a long line of bards and natural
philosophers whose number includes Reg Presley, Sky Saxon, Bo
Diddley, D.H Laurence, William Shakespeare, Aristotle, Homer,
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and all the unnamed carriers of legend
and myth. In raising their songwriting art, the legendary punk
rocker William Chyldish and Fire Dept front man Neil Hereward Palmer
engaged in an alliance to pursue the thrice-fold aims of Happiness,
Poetry and God. They succeed in manifesting the authentic sound of
amateurism, elevating it to high art and thus banishing
procrastination and the fear of creation from the human imagination.
However, mindful that poets are, in the main, vermin Chyldish and
Palmer cheerfully mock their own craft, praising limitation. For in
unceasingly veiling Gods truth, which is the way to things, with
words, the Vermin Poet separates persons-with-an-interest from the
wider interests of human beings outside commerce and held in Gods
law, which is love. Dr Johnson was none too keen on vermin poets:
his English dictionary of 1755 contained a definition of the word
"vaticide", which is "a murderer of poets". The Vermin Poets seek
neither to gild the ars poetica, nor to slay its sons and daughters.
The stated aim of The Vermin Poets is to describe the shape of the
things sufficiently well so that others to may understand and
explore, or view more effectively the universe and the bounty it
contains for themselves |

three classic Warrior Soul albums available as a limited edition of
500 copies worldwide on white vinyl Track listing: Love Destruction;

Ghetto Nation Kory Clarke wanted to be the Iggy Pop of the '90s.
Through his band, Warrior Soul, the Detroit native concocted his own
Stooges- and MC5-style blend of political activism and art rock
tendencies, gave it a '90s spin, and tried to impart it upon
Generation X (the kids, not the band), but they never listened.
Originally a drummer for a number of bands, including Detroit punks
L7 (not the all-female L.A. band) and Pennsylvania Southern rockers
Raging Slab, Kory Clarke pro-moted himself to stage front when he
founded Warrior Soul with guitarist John Ricco, bassist Pete
McLanahan, and drummer Paul Ferguson. Their first album, 1990's Last
Decade Dead Century, was a critical sensation, especially in the
U.K., where listeners readily embraced the band's political
invective and insurrectionist rantings as the next big thing. But
while Clarke certainly had the potential to become Generation X's
leading mainstream-bashing poet, the metallic hard rock sound he

Imaad Waisf
is a rock musician who came of age in the Coachella Valley of the
1990s. Wasif kept his sounds stripped down in his revered indie rock
outfits Lowercase and Alaska! During these early years, he also
played live and in the studio with Lou Barlows Folk Implosion. In
2006 Kill Rock Stars released Wasifs self-titled solo debut, an
acoustic psych gem that had a lean, hushed intensity. Around the
same time he was enlisted as a touring guitarist and opening act for
the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Wasif then self-released Strange Hexes in March
2008, this album will be released by Tee Pee Records later in 2010.
The Voidist features guests Dale Crover (Melvins), Greg Burns (Red
Sparrowes and was recorded by Chad Bamford (Weezer). He has also

/ Dead Weather) on the score for the Spike Jonze directed film
adaption of Where The Wild Things Are hit theatres at the end of

Williamson
co-wrote all the songs (with Iggy) and played all the guitar parts
for The Stooges 1973 album Raw Power. He played louder and raunchier
than almost anybody at the time, with a jagged high-energy approach.
For this, along with his creative song writing, many people consider
him one of punk's pioneers influencing a legion of subsequent hard
rock/punk players, including Steve Jones (Sex Pistols), Kim Thayil
(Soundgarden), Johnny Ramone (the Ramones), Greg Ginn (Black Flag),
and Slash (Guns N' Roses), among countless others. Backed by San
Jose based roots rock band Careless Hearts James played his first
gig in 35 years at the Blank Club in San Jose, CA on September 5,
2009. Includes tracks that have never been played live before such
as No Sense of Crime and Night Theme alongside classic Stooges
tracks. James Williamson is returning to the stage with Iggy &
The Stooges in 2010 (rehearsals began in 2009) for shows in London

band, and with Red Barked Tree they have succeeded in making a
statement that will sound as strong in 30 years as their celebrated
historical oeuvre does today. Red Barked Tree rekindles a lyricism
sometimes absent from Wires previous work and reconnects with the
live energy of performance, harnessed and channelled from extensive
touring over the past few years. Red Barked Tree was conceived,
written and recorded mostly during 2010 by the pared-down lineup of
Colin Newman, Graham Lewis and Robert Grey -- with no guests.
Ranging from the hymnal Adapt to the barking sledgehammer art-punk
of Two Minutes, the album encompasses the full range of style and
nuance that has always endeared Wire to pastel-tinged pop
