I've been using 0.9.18 for a while and have a number of bookmarks. Having updated to 1.0 on my one machine today I noticed that my bookmarks no longer behave properly.

Now all messages that are part of a thread of which any message is located in the target location are shown.

So for instance:

From/To                                    Subject                      Maildir
Someone                                  Hello                         /WORK/ARCHIVED
To Someone                             -> Re: Hello               /WORK/[Gmail]/Sent Mail
Someone                                    -> Re: Hello            /WORK/INBOX
To Someone                                  -> Re: Hello         /WORK/[Gmail]/Sent Mail

So I only want to see the third of these messages. I don't want to see my sent messages (at least not until we have folding/collapseable threads) and I don't want to see archived messages.

Until this update, my bookmarks have been delivering this desired behaviour, and thus on the last version I would have seen only:

From/To                                    Subject                      Maildir
Someone                                  Re: Hello            /WORK/INBOX

My bookmarks look something like this:

(setq mu4e-bookmarks
         '(
             ("( ( maildir:/WORK/INBOX AND NOT from:my\.name\@uni\.edu ) OR maildir:/HOME/INBOX OR maildir:/ALT/INBOX ) AND NOT flag:trashed" "Unified mail (all) " ?u)
   ......

What do I need to set or how should I alter my bookmarks in order to return to the old behaviour which only shows messages which meet the criteria and not any message part of any thread where one message in the thread meets the criteria?

(Toggling with "P" doesn't change the basic problem, but just changes the threading.)

The default for mu4e-headers-include-related changed in 1.0.

You can check if this setting is the cause of your issue by toggling
this option with W and then customize to your desired value.

Hope that helps,
Josiah

Hi Josiah,

That does indeed help. Cheers! (While it certainly is a useful feature
to be able to see all related messages, it does seem odd to have it on
as a default.)

cheers,

It follows what gmail does, which many people are familiar with; and it
seemed like a nice way to exploit the fact that mu4e is query-based.

But yeah, changing defaults is a bit of a balancing act...

Kind regards,
Dirk.
