mu verify

Hi

I am trying to get verification of signed messages to work, and I cannot get it to work in mu (or mu4e which is the ultimate goal).
In general I find it very hard to debug, I only get the "verdict: no signature found" if i use "mu verify <file>" or the 'v' key in the message view.
GPG_AGENT_INFO is set in the environment and gpg-agent is running.
gpg itself says the signature is ok:

gpg --verify < <file>                                                                                          |
gpg: Signature made Mon Jun  8 13:58:30 2015 CEST using RSA key ID XXXXX
gpg: Good signature .....


How do I track down what is bothering "mu verify" (I cant even figure out how to properly validate that my mu is built with gmime (even though homebrew says it is)) ?
