Set gr_ean to only allow unique values?

Hi,

I would like to edit the gr_ean attribute to only allow unique values as if 2 products end up with the same gr_ean it causes us all sorts of issues for us.

When I try and do this the option isn't available. See attachment.

Can this be done?
