Generally, you can use any client library because MQTT is an open protocol.

I recommend Paho.

Can you provide details? Have you installed the Xmarin server? Are you seeing issues in you C code connecting to the xamarin mqtt server?

You can install mosquito broker on your machine and check if your C client is working with that.

There are many mqtt libraries supporting C. You should describe more detail of your environment. Of course, in addition, you should disclose more information (e.g. logging messages) about "didn't connect".
