How do you change the fonts?!

You'd think this would be simple, but no.

I want to make the fonts in all 3 panes bigger and darker. How do I do
it? I've got the Compose window (and Message Body pane) changed via
Tools | Options | Display | Fonts | Advanced | Monospace (whew!).
However, when I change any of the other fonts in that dialogue, it
doesn't seem to change anything. When I change the "Default font" at
T|O|D, nothing seems to change for that either.

How do I change the font in the Folders and Threads panes?

I looked for it, the description refers to Firefox, not Thunderbird.

This has always been a bit of a sore point with me. I finally gave up
on it. It used to be necessary to change the system fonts in order to
do this. I believe there are also changed you can make to the
userChrome.css file (not sure of the spelling there) that will do the
job. I am sure someone can point you to the correct changes.

Read again.
Works for Firefox, Thunderbird and Seamonkey.
I have TB6 and it's working fine for me.

Except when reading back my own message! Geez, this is annoying!

I just installed that add-on into TB6 with no problems. Now to see how
it works, and thanks for the lead.

I _did_ change the system fonts and got no results from that, except to
get unreadable combo boxes and message texts! My enlarged menu fonts
appear in IE (and Safari and Word) but not in TBird (or Real or Skype)!

OTOH, I hit a single keystroke on my Mac and EVERYTHING was just
perfect. Windows, what a concept!

I'm going for "Theme Font & Size Changer".

Thanks, Morgana. I got it and it changes everything -- except when
reading back my own messages! I've unchecked "Allow messages to use
other fonts" too!

It works well, but doesn't change spacing. I may see if the author will
address that.

That's the file, Ron. I use:

/* Global UI font */
* { font-size: 15pt !important;
font-family: Arial !important;
}

One can play with size and family till something appeals.

That's the 'cheap' way to do the job. For a 'click and go' solution,
the Theme Font & Size Changer add-on works well. Doesn't change the
spacing between lines, though.

Does work well. However, I'm not gonna lose the css stuff in case bumps,
ACR, etc., mysteriously stop working in future versions <vbg>!

First paragraph of description:
"Theme Font and Size Changer lets you change the global font size and
font family used for the user interface in Firefox. Design your browser
with your favourite font."

That's where I stopped reading. Should I be expected to read further and
discover, eventually, that it also works for TBird? No, because I expect
the first paragraph to contain all the relevant information. This one
doesn't. I wonder how many others haven't bothered with this add-on
because of this misleading opener.

OTOH, I'm glad you did read further, and report success with this
add-on. I'll try it. Thanks. ;-)

Have a good day,
Wolf K.

The add-on is fine as far as it goes, thanks for the tip. Be nice if you
could select different fonts for different panes....

Not sure if that is feasible, but you could suggest it to the author...

In my case, the font I chose in TBird is working for Western encoding.
When I come to a Unicode message, it ignores the font I've chosen.

I can't find how to choose your encoding. I know I've done it before.
