A friend got this error message:

The application or DLL C:\Program Files\Firefox\mozalloc.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against
your installation diskette.

Looks like she clicked on a link in Thunderbird.

It's Win XP; no idea what versions of FF or TB.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

Files with the extension .dll are subroutine libraries, not images.
Sometimes those files can contain icons, but they are not classified as
images.
What was your friend trying to do?

She clicked on a link in TB.

What was she expecting to accomplish by clicking the link? Did she
think she would be viewing an image, or downloading a file, or visiting
a web page?

The expression "installation diskette" in the error message is
interesting as well. What is installed these days from diskettes?

I don't think I've ever seen a link to an image on a webpage. She was trying to get to a web page.

"These days", nothing. But when she got her computer, almost everything.

Who these days has a diskette drive? I have a USB one but haven't used it in a coon's age.

I don't either. :-) But there are still many older computers out
there that have disk drives.

But EE asked what might be installed from a diskette, not whether she had one!

It's probably a corrupted .dll, or you have more than one copy of that
file on the pc, or there is another application trying to call on that
.dll at the same time.

Find mozalloc.dll on the computer, rename it mozalloc.dll.old.
Restart the computer, try the link again and see if it works this
time. If it doesn't, try uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox.
