Strange characters appearing in text windows

Hi,

I am using FF beta and am seeing characters appear in text windows... It's like FF is trying to enter characters from a different language... like an umlaut or accent characters that are used in French (accent grave or accent acute) for example.


This is new to any previous FF behavior. I'm trying to determine if this is a bug in FF or a user error. Have I missed something?

Just a guess, but you probably need to turn on Unicode. View -> Text Encoding

I just checked and unicode was selected. The last time I thought about this stuff the encoding was "Western". I selected western but the menu froze and I had to kill FF. Argh! The setting reverted to "Unicode" and this strange behavior.

This is the beta FF (55.0b6)

After the message-id above I see "Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8; format=flowed". My locale was en_us.utf8 but I changed it to en_us in an attempt to defeat this bug. No luck unless you count bad luck.

I'm wondering if the keyboard is "designed" for a different country/language. The keyboard doesn't appear to be broken (nice try Lucifer)... the keyboard IS or appears to be acting like it's from a different country. Could this be the case?
