Early feedback on FF4 is fantastic, and we're seeing a great uptake.
One point of early feedback through SUMO is that on systems with
cleartype disabled, our text is often not very appealing. It seems to
be especially problematic with web fonts, but not exclusive.

>From quick testing it seems that IE9 and Chrome force ClearType on,
but I could be testing incorrectly so someone who knows what they're
doing should doublecheck that.

Is there a way for users to turn this on/off?

In my experience fonts on the web have gotten really sad. The experience
when we updated getfirebug.com was frustrating because the design was
marred by crummy fonts. But when we complained about it others said it's
was fine for them. So I wonder if some of my browsers/operating systems
whatever don't share the same settings as other folks. And I wonder what
our users see.

I believe we already force cleartype on for webfonts, however we might
not do this for DirectWrite. I believe Chrome avoids using GDI for
headings with webfonts. This might explain some of the feedback. Can
we get a bug for this problem?
