Hi!

I'm forwarding this to dev-mdc where most writers (both staff and
contributors) are lurking. Writers: feel free to chime in.

Maybe we should also have feedback from users of the docs?

Hi,

Following on from the earlier work by Chris Mills I have made a proposal
for restructuring the Marketplace Zone content to better serve our
developers. Details are here:
https://etherpad.mozilla.org/marketplace-zone-restructure-for-review

During this week I will be writing some of the ‘new’ pages with a view
to starting to implement the changes later this week/early next.

If you have any comments, please feel free to update the etherpad and/or
respond to this thread – thanks! If you could get any comments back to
us by the end of Friday (April 5) that would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Richard Bloor

Hi Scott,

Thanks for this - I've added a "Getting your app 'feature'" section to the
"Managing your published app" - in terms of content for such a section, do
you have any editorial guidelines e.g. what are you looking for in an app
that would get featured? Is an "editorial feature" different from the apps
listed in the "Featured Apps" section? Could you drop some bullet points to
an etherpad?

Reading article about Zippy I'm thinking we also could do with a section for
payment provides describing the process for getting involved (and presumably
when we have additional payment providers updating the developer section to
a) describe who they are and b) how to select them when submitting an app.)

In terms of dynamic vrs. static option - my understanding is that the goal
is to have these pages used as part of a translation/localization pilot so
while including regular updates about related blog content would be
desirable it would probably be easier to keep the pages static between
changes for functional updates.

This is great. I have a few items.

Should definitely let developers know they can submit their app for MP
editorial feature consideration by submitting their app to
<mailto:edi...@mozilla.com> edi...@mozilla.com.

Will this content get updated regularly? If so, I'd be happy to provide
ongoing timely/relevant Apps Blog posts, as we often publish posts directed
specifically to developers, like this one
<https://blog.mozilla.org/apps/2014/01/22/3-keys-to-writing-effective-app-co
py/> , or this one
<https://blog.mozilla.org/apps/2014/02/13/geo-targeting-keeping-developers-i
n-the-drivers-seat/> ; and sometimes feature guest posts from MP engineers
<https://blog.mozilla.org/apps/2014/03/28/integrating-app-payments/> .
However if this content is static, it would be great to simply provide links
to the Apps Blog <https://blog.mozilla.org/apps/> and Firefox Apps
<https://twitter.com/FirefoxApps> on Twitter. If you need any copy from me,
don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Lisa,

I've made some updates to the proposal based on this feedback.

My thinking is proposing these further updates is that some of the content
proposed for a review exit page are matters that should be considered well
before review approval, indeed well before submitting an app in the first
place, e.g. setting up a user support/community, planning promotion, etc.

In addition, I have a couple of additional questions:

1) The <https://forums.mozilla.org/marketplace>
https://forums.mozilla.org/marketplace site mentioned in
<https://etherpad.mozilla.org/mp-forum-taxonomy>
https://etherpad.mozilla.org/mp-forum-taxonomy - what is the timeline for
its launch? That definitely needs weaving into the content on users and
promotion

2) What reporting is available to developers post publication - e.g.
installs/geography, payments etc. - if there is, is there a test app
anywhere that has some data populated, screenshots etc.

Adding Elizabeth Hunt, who has been working on a lot of developer-facing
stuff for Marketplace. I think she’ll have something to say about the
proposed structure.

Hi Richard,

The Marketplace forum was proposed and discussed, and it looks like
we're shelving the idea for now. It seems the forums and mailing lists
we already have are sufficient, and people didn't feel strongly about
having a centralized forum for all Marketplace discussions.

Thanks,

In addition, I have a couple of additional questions:

https://etherpad.mozilla.org/mp-forum-taxonomy - what is the timeline for
its launch? That definitely needs weaving into the content on users and
promotion

2) What reporting is available to developers post publication - e.g.
installs/geography, payments etc. - if there is, is there a test app
anywhere that has some data populated, screenshots etc.

Regards

Richard Bloor

I added some comments around the monetization page. Success for our
developers means more than just making money, and also includes marketing
your app, increasing visibility, building a community around your app, etc.

Our App & Marketplace developers can find developer support on Stack Overflow. That should be our 1-stop Q & A destination.

Not at all a priority at this time to provision forums for developers for interactions w/end-users, we haven't fielded a single request for such a feature. It might be nice further down the road, but at this time developers have many choices for interacting w/users and offering Moz forums (which don't have wide current adoption anyway, and have mostly been supplanted by Goog Groups for Mozilla lists/interactions) and could easily lead to confusion and fragmentation.

Over and out.

cheers, Havi
