Today we successfully launched Firefox Quantum, a browser that we can truly
feel proud of. None of this could have happened without your help. The
l10n-drivers are so grateful for the extra effort, feedback, testing, and
localizing that you have worked with us on to make today possible. You're
an inspiration and we're honored by your contributions and dedication.
Here's to more Firefox, more Open Web, and more independent choice!

Thank you,
Jeff

If 57 is Quantum, then you're about to lose me as a user. Ever since
version 50 came out, the width of the empty space between bookmark
toolbar icons has been increasing and increasing. Between 50 and 57 I've
lost about 12 icons worth of space. Yeah so I have a crazy number of
textless icons with no text so I don't have to click around like a monkey.

Yeah, I filed a bug
(1318869<https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1318869>) when 50
messed them around initially... but apparently Mozilla is beginning to
value some well-hidden (so far, nobody has been able to tell me what
exactly the user benefit of this ever increasing space is) devs idea of
pretty over usability.

Michael,
I'm on PTO right now, but once I'm back I'll give you a hand to take back as much bookmarks in your toolbar as I can. Quantum is an awesome product and abandone it over a padding will be a pitty.

Well, I would personally appreciate that but I really think this needs a
fix for everyone, not just me. I've downgraded to 55 for now(since 56
had a memory leak), so no hurry as regards me personally. Thank you for
offering.

You can play around with userChrome.css
http://kb.mozillazine.org/index.php?title=UserChrome.css&printable=yes

For example (only tested quickly, might break other stuff)

@namespace
url(http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul);

toolbarbutton.bookmark-item:not(.subviewbutton) {
  margin: 0 4px 0 0 !important;
  padding: 0 !important;
}
