Hi,
First of all thanks for your interest in contributing to Mozilla. Can you
clarify if this request is about you wanting to localize Firefox on your
own, or if there's a larger community of people interested in helping?

I'm asking because I think it's important to set expectations:
localizing Firefox is a process that will take several months, or years,
even with a group of people actively translating it. There won't be official
builds until you reach a certain level of completion of the main parts, at
that point there will be only Nightly builds.
After that, you'll still need to find testers and complete translation in
order to move on to Beta and Release.

For this reason, we tend to discourage one-person efforts. You need other
people to help you out, so finding them should likely be the first step.

As long as you understand this, and you're still willing to start the
translation, I can set up the locale on Pontoon (I will need some data).

Francesco

In understand this but still want you to add the language so I can start

I will definitely look for other people to help out.

Hi Christian,

you should really heed of Francesco`s advice. You need perseverance and
time, and the willingness to continue started work. But I can comfort
you: The hardest work will be the translation of the first build because all
strings are new for you and have to be translated. Later on, you need
translate some new or changed strings only. But consider that you should
continue your translation work after the first Luxembourgish build will be
released. All Luxembourgian Firefox users, regardless how many they may be,
will be expect that.

I know what I write about: I am the only! translator for two languages,
Upper Sorbian and Lower Sorbian. I fully translated Firefox, Thunderbird and
all Mozilla webpages which are translatable. I've been translating since
2001 until 2014 in private. I always hesitated to translate officially
because I thought I couldn't keep up with the required translation cyclus
but I have no regrets about being a member of Mozilla localizers community.

Nevertheless, it is better to have some team-mates. It will be an enormous
work in the beginning but it is possible to master this work.

And, if you need help: there is a team of really good localization drivers
and other localizers like to help you as well.

Finally, Im sure you will have to find trenchant words and expressions or
"invent" some. Sorbian languages are minority languages and often I had to
find new words or expressions.

If you are still willing now to translate, then you and Luxembourgish are
welcome to the Mozilla localization community.

Regards,

Michael

Hi Christian,

I'm Muhend Belkacem, the manager of the kabyle locale. As said Francesco and
Michael, There is a lot of work to do. you can translate by yourself of
course, but think about the next, how to maintain the localization
up-to-date?. There is a lot updates depending on the cycles. When we
localized Firefox and most of Mozilla products and to keep them localized
over the time, I had to organize training sessions about localization here
in Kabylia (Algeria) and recruit more localizers.

Think about recruiting more localizers, share translation memories, decide
together about some choices....

Remember that localization at Mozilla it's an ongoing work

Regards

M. Belkacem
