Hello,

please can you add Tatar (in Cyrillic) to Pontoon?

1) What Mozilla product are you hoping to localise? Keep in mind that
Firefox desktop is a rather large project which can potentially take a long
time for a full localisation to ship.

Common Voice.

I have started the localisation offline here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Nw3plD1h4ThD91c4kiQnSuTYkza4R_umvdNxzFk1IGs/edit?usp=sharing

2) Which language code should be used? (ISO-639-1, ISO-639-3, country code).

tt_RU@cyrl, tat_RU@cyrl

3) How many plural forms are in the language? To give an example,
how would you translate the following phrases:

- *0 rocks* : 0 таш
- *1 rock* : 1 таш
- *2 rocks* : 2 таш
- *3 rocks* : 3 таш
- *4 rocks * : 4 таш
- *5 rocks* : 5 таш
- *10 rocks* : 10 таш
- *20 rocks* : 20 таш
- *100 rocks* : 100 таш
- *1000 rocks* : 1000 таш
- *I see 0 rocks on the ground* : Мин җирдә 0 таш күрәм
- *I see 1 rock on the ground* : Мин җирдә 1 таш күрәм
- *I see rocks on the ground* : Мин җирдә ташлар күрәм

4) Are you hoping to localise alone or do you have friends that will join
you? For sustainability of the localisation (because we're always releasing
new versions of Firefox products that will need localising), we'd prefer to
only ship new locales that have more than one person sustaining them.

I am planning to invite my friends to help localizing.

A follow up question/request:

if that's possible, could you please add support for both Cyrillic and Latin versions of Tatar. Both are official in the Republic of Tatarstan and are used through the language communities. If the spelling is not specified, I am afraid that the translations in different alphabets will get mixed up.

Also, please add spe...@ivixor.net to the managers of this localization effort.

Best,

If adding two writing systems is complicated or time consuming, perhaps just the Cyrillic one could be added first and the Latin one could be added at a later date. In any case we can check and convert if necessary any Latin input. In any case the Cyrillic one should be default.

Yes, it's complicated and basically no tooling exists right now.

That said, we might call it it tt-Cyrl from the get go?

Related question, is there a transcription from Cyrillic to Latin? I
know that uconv has something for Serbian, for example, but didn't find
something for Tatar ad-hoc.

There is no deterministic transcription, and I think it would be better to call it just tt-RU and then have tt@Latn-RU when the tooling exists.

It looks like the locale was created on Pontoon (as tt).
