Please leave feedback on that post in this thread!

Thanks,

I like the option to enter web search terms right from Thunderbird, but I'm not interested in doing web browsing in my mail client.  I'd prefer if it opened search results in my default browser (Firefox) instead of Thunderbird.  This could at least be an optional setting, but if it were me I'd save the effort and just make it the default behavior.

As I posted here:
http://feedback.mozillalabs.com/forums/68185-messaging-add-ons/suggestions/1506687-opensearch-should-open-in-default-browser-not-thu

I typically do a search and then open several of the search results in separate tabs. I want to be able to easily switch back to the search results from those tabs, but if the search results are in Thunderbird I have to switch back and forth between TB and Firefox, which is no fun.

My feedback for what it's worth,
Paul

PS. I don't understand "OpenSearch" as a name for this.  Why not "Thunderbird Web Search" or something like that which tells you what it is.  The term "open" gets thrown around a lot these days so that it starts to lose its meaning.

I don't think we'll make it the default behaviour, but I do see your
point, and it does make sense to me as an option.

Thank you! I've logged it as
https://github.com/mozilla/opensearch/issues/19

The name is because we're using the same code as Firefox's OpenSearch
implementation. See, for example,
https://developer.mozilla.org/en/creating_opensearch_plugins_for_firefox

Also, since we'll probably roll it in to a future version of
Thunderbird, the name isn't _that_ important, since it'll hopefully go
away at some point. :)

Thanks!   Would be great to see that option.  Also thanks for the explanation on the name.  That makes more sense to me now.
