Does anyone have a server side epub parser for monocle?

Hi all,

Im using monocle with EFM (Epub For Monocle) but im noticing some strange browser hangs and lags. I think the work of doing all the downloading and processing of the zip files in the browser may be a bit much. If you are previewing multiple epubs one after the other i notice that you get locks and the browser tab crashes in Chrome. 

Anyway, im curious to know how to create a book object from an ePub. Our server side environment is linux/opensource and we use PHP. We can also work with shell scripts and perl. If we preprocess all our epub book samples, then im hoping for a more responsive result....
