What does Mongoose#model parameter skipInit actually do?

The documentation does not explain this at all, what is the purpose of skipping Initialization, what are the use cases and why does it default to false?

Mongoose#model(`name`, `[schema]`, `[collection]`, `[skipInit]`)

[skipInit] <Boolean> whether to skip initialization (defaults to false)
