We do have a Mongo 3.0 Replica setup running on two DC, one like EAST site having four members (1 Primary and 3 Secondary) and another one WEST serves as Disaster site with one member as HIDDEN. MMS Ops is running on the set up and as a part of DR testing, East DC will be kept down and West DC lone surviving member will be made as standalone for the application to do writes.

Later after EAST DC is made up and running, can the transactions happened under the standalone DB at the west, will be replicated to the East site servers..?

Also, instead of turning into standalone, cant we manage to continue with the same replication set up keeping WEST DC member as single participating member..?

Do we need to go for a reconfiguration whenever we want to add EAST side four members into the replica set assuming WEST side lone member acting as primary or the vice versa...?

Considering the above scenario...   which option will serve as best solution to do DR testing with minimal or zero data loss..

ram,

the issue here is that you have 2 datacenters. we also have 2 data centers. it took me a long time to come up with the way to recover when the whole data center with the
majority goes down. i happened to listen to a presentation given by Chris Biow Principal Technologist Mongodb 4/8/2015: "Webinar Deploying MongoDB to Production in Data Centers and the Cloud". he explains very specifically how to recover without turning the remaining member into a standalone and how to get all the data back to the primary. make sure you find it with audio.
