Unable to start MongoDB 3.x on Windows 2012 R2 after installation. Continually receive APPCRASH errors. MSVCR120.dll c000001d.

Installed Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013, but still unable to start.

Any ideas?

Hi Brian,

I’ve just tested this by downloading and installing the latest stable version MongoDB v3.2.1 on Windows 2012 R2 (standard 64-bit).
The .msi file name is : mongodb-win32-x86_64-2008plus-ssl-3.2.1-signed.msi. The MongoDB installer version is Windows 64-bit 2008 R2+, note that it's not the legacy version.

I was able to execute mongod.exe, and connect to it via mongo.exe successfully.

Did you install using the .msi or the zip files ?

If its through the .msi, can you please post the full installer name for v3.2.1 ?

Also, can you post the full crash log, or any crash dump files ?

Regards,

Wan.

Hi Adrian,

Although you may be getting a similar error message, it may be a different issue that is causing it.

Please start a new discussion with the following information:

  • MongoDB specific version. i.e. 3.0.8, 3.2.1
  • Windows specific version. i.e. Win 2012 R2 64 bit.
  • If installing via the .msi, what is the full installer name for it ?
  • Are you running this from a virtual machine ? i.e. VMWare, XenServer, etc.
  • Crash log, or crash dump files.

Regards,

Wan.

Hi Mingcen,

Please start a new thread discussion with the following information:

  • Your MongoDB server specific version. i.e. 3.0.12, 3.2.6
  • Your Windows specific version. i.e. Win 2012 R2 64 bit.
  • If you are installing via the .msi, what is the full installer name for it ?
  • Are you running Windows from a virtual machine ? i.e. VMWare, XenServer, etc.
  • Any crash log, or crash dump files related.

Hi Wan,

Sorry for my late reply (I didn't receive notification email)

Below are some information:

1. MongoDB version I have tried include 3.1.0, 3.2.6, and 3.2.7
2. Windows version I have tried include win 7, 8 and server 2012 r2 (all are 64 bits)
3. The msi package are all downloaded from MongoDB official site.
4. I believe my problem is here: all tests are on VM of XenServer.

Some more info: I tried MongoDB 2.6 and it works fine. I believe VM of XenServer does not support some instruction called by MongoDB 3.0 +.

Thanks

Mingcen

Hi Mingcen,

Thanks for the reply and providing the information.

I believe VM of XenServer does not support some instruction called by MongoDB 3.0 +.

There is currently an open MongoDB tracker ticket SERVER-21732 related to older processors (before 2011) or XenServer not supporting AVX instruction set for MongoDB v3.0.3+. Please see the ticket for more information.

Also feel free to watch or upvote the ticket for issue updates.

Kind regards,

Wan.
