ANSI Color and Hypnotoad

I have a app that generates tables via Text::ANSITable and colorizes some things with TERM::ANSIColor. Everything is fine when I run my app via hypnotoad in foreground. However, if I run in it background, the colors are gone.

Was hoping someone could tell me why. When I have more time, I can post a working example if needed.
