I have read over and over again Pierce Brosnan is over 6' tall. What
seems very strange to me is when my boys were very young (they are 21
and 22 now) we were eating at The Hard Rock Cafe in Hollywood, CA
after a long day at Universal Studios. As I was returning from the
restroom, all the employees were getting us back to our seats and had
secured and sectioned off the entire top floor. With all the commotion
you knew someone important was entering the room. Then right past me
walked Pierce Brosnan and his current wife, they were not married at
the time I believe. I am not quite 5'7", and I certainly would not be
wearing high heels with 2 kids in tow at Universal Studios. Pierce
Brosnan is shorter than I am. We were so close I could have touched
him. There is no way he is that tall. He is a very good looking man,
but short, and no one can convince me otherwise. I saw it with my own
eyes, and my husband even commented, "who would guess James Bond is
shorter than his {me} wife". I would love to see him stand next to
Nicole Kidman in real life! Why is that so important anyway? It just
boggles my mind when I had this real life experience and keep reading
something else that I know is not true.

Tom Cruise is another Hollywood 'star' who is portrayed as being MUCH

I saw him on a talk show a few years ago (Leno) , and when they showed
Tom Cruise next to Leno, they used a VERY low camera angle, with Cruise
in front, making him look TALLER than Leno..when in fact he's many
inches shorter.

Somewhere I read that Cruise is only 5' 3" (or possibly 4") tall.

I guess even Scientology can't fix short...LOL.

Humphrey Bogart was also quite short.

In the final scene in Casablanca with Ingrid Bergman, he was standing on
a box. Otherwise, he would have been substantially shorter than Ingrid
Bergman.

The only time I saw him was at a pub just down the road from pinewood
studios. He didn't look any taller than average when sitting down,
anyway ;-)

(no security in evidence there, by the way, he was just there with
everyone else - we used to see various actors at that place in the same
way... different world I suppose!)

cheers

Okay, you can't just drop something like that without some questions... what
kind of work did you do at Pinewood Studios?

Stellan Skarsgård (the guy on the left I believe) is 6'3" (various soruces).
Collin Firth is 6'1" (oir 6'2", various sources).
And Pierce is also listed as 6'1".

The picture indeed shows that Stellan is a bit taller and the other two
about the same. So unless they are all lying Pierce is indeed about 6'1".

Woah... I didn't say that :-) I used to work in Langley (but not the one
of CIA fame ;) which wasn't too far from Pinewood, so we'd often go out
for lunch at various pubs in the area and see famous (or less-so) actors
who were filming at Pinewood at the time.

North of Langley toward Pinewood was quite a 'sleepy' area, so I suppose
they were never too bothered about the sort of security they'd feel
necessary in a big city (although I'm sure they always had one or two
well-built types lurking in the shadows, just in case :-)

cheers

Jules

Do they /look/ like platform lifty shoes?

Their belts/crotchs/etc. all seem to be at about the same height so if
one of them is wearing lift shoes the rest of his body is proportioned
funny.

Got a friend that works at a hollywood studio and *every* actor she's
met has been short. Pretty much every actor I've met has been short.
Why this is the case I'll never know.

I was going to say that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson wasn't short, but then I
realized most people don't technically count him as an actor either.

While pretty glib, you are probably right.

Think about Spencer Tracy and Claude Rains, two of the greatest actors
of all time, and they were both VERY talented, and quite short.

The thing is: they rarely tried to 'hide' the height disparity between
them and other actors, in films

Tracy and Hepburn were very mismatched in height, but they were a great
team in the movies, and a couple in real life.
