O.k so my son and I are sitting in front of the TV last night watching
"The Sarah Conner Chronicles", a version of the Terminator movies that
pretends the last Movie didn't happy.

So there is one scene where John Conner is trying to slip a key off a
new Terminator's neck who is in "standby" mode. I was fully
manipulated in this scene buy the writers and directors, so was my
son, because as they cut to a commercial and we both could finally
take a breath. We found ourselves holding our breath waiting for
something to happen, while hoping it didn't. They have found ways to
make scenes in that show so intense that it actually raises your heart
rate watching it.

I'm really enjoying the show... anyone else?

Yeah, we like it. A cut above most of the junk on TV. Even "Lost" was
pretty good last week. Can't wait until FX continues with "The Shield,"
"Damages," and "The Riches."

I seem to remember getting sick of Lost when it started to feel like it
would never have a conclusion, and they'd just keep on spinning out new
episodes whilst it was still making money.

I was really enjoying Heroes back in the UK - but typically US shows
there air a few months behind the US, and I was two episodes away from
the end of the first series when I came over here. I'll have to pick that
one up on DVD sometime...

I think I'll be avoiding TV and ordering the box set of Twin Peaks in the
next few weeks though :-)

cheers

I like it quite a bit. There is so little TV that is worth watching
these days. Even if there was, I would still enjoy this show.

Even though it's a 'spin-off' from the movies, it's very well written
and the acting is very good, too.

Interesting that it's on Fox, while NBC hasn't had a decent new show for
so many years I've lost track.

The problem with Fox is that they often cancel good shows. I'm not sure
they have that luxury during the writer's strike, though.

My *local* problem with Fox is that their digital broadcast is strangely
underpowered (according to Weeks' page:
<http://www.johnweeks.com/stuff/dtvmsp.html>), and ends up being my most
"iffy" channel, although I don't get 17 at all and 45 is surprisingly
strong given its much lower listed power. I still have the ol' TiVo as
backup, but it would be really nice if FOX 9 treated digital as if it
had a future.

Yes, enjoying it very much. Looks great in HD, has better than
average acting and writing, and has decent effects as well.

One of the better network shows on TV right now, IMO.

"The Shield" is about as intense at it gets on TV. I watched the first
couple of season on DVD and I had a hard time sleeping after the end of a disc!

Damages was excellent also, I'm so glad Glenn Close is both willing to do
television and willing to give 100% when she does. I was a little less
sold on the brunette who played Ellen, but the overall show was excellent.
I'd love to see Helen Mirren and Glenn Close co-star in something on
opposite sides.

I haven't been able to get into FX yet simply because my mind is stuck
on the existing channel rotation which when nothing else is on, I
always find something on one of the Trio of A&E, Biography, or History
channel to watch. After the Damages show started, I figure FX will be
the group of shows I pick up on DVD and it'll all be new to me.

It is, as far as I know, but I'm more or less OK with that as the story
line is really reaching a conclusion on almost all the subplots. I was
disappointed that the last season was so very short; I'd read something
about "half seasons" and this last season being a "whole" season, but we'll
see.

Ted was great.

FX is certainly giving HBO a run for its money, although its not hard to
look at "The Wire" and consider it the best drama ever to appear on television.

I find myself in the same boat.... I don't want to spring for the
premium channels either. Personally I find the Discovery Channel, TLC,
FX and the other channels putting out some primo stuff nowadays.

However, I did enjoy renting the first two seasons of the Sopranos.
Still haven't gotten around to rent the rest of the episodes but I'm
fairly sure that it will be some quality viewing.

I'm curious to see how the heck CBS is going to show Dexter on network
television and have the show remain as good as it was. His sister on
that show is cussing every time her mouth opens. Lots of blood and
scenes of torture. Not to mention the evil nudity that shows up from
the dead people (no bright white light to hide things here) to the not
so dead. That isn't exactly what made the show, but it's in the show.

Far less interesting than the 3 Dexter books, and the broadcast
version will be even less interesting than the Showtime version.

The series is loosely based on the first book, but went seriously off
the rails pretty quickly.

I dunno, I found Dexter to be an extremely enjoyable show. Perhaps
it's the simple idea of the evil in humans and one humans attempt to
be do good while sliding under the radar. The co-dependency angle
related to the addictions is also interesting. I'm sure much of it
has to do with the fact I've never read the book.

Almost always, if I've read the book, the movie or tv version attempts
pale in comparison. I can't think of one that didn't, though Stephen
King's Christine wasn't too bad of a movie, nor Carrie.

Yes.

I'd already read the first book before the series was announced; we
subscribed to Showtime just to be able to watch the program.

Taken on its own, the program wasn't bad, but the farther from the
original premise the program wandered, the less I thought of it. I don't
know if it's contract issues or just writer's ego, but I don't
understand why someone will buy the rights to a book and then use almost
nothing from it but the title.

If you find the idea at all interesting, invest a few hours and read the
books; they're perfect vacation fare.
