The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel remains shut down this afternoon as
authorities investigate a bomb threat that came in before 2 p.m.
today.

The tunnel was cleared out and traffic is being rerouted to the
Ambassador Bridge, Detroit Police Inspector Don Johnson said.
There were no specifics to the threat called into Canadian
authorities, he said.

"A bomb threat was called in on the Canadian side," said Neal
Belitsky, president and CEO of Detroit Windsor Tunnel. "Local
emergency responders are on the scene investigating."

He said he anticipates the tunnel will be closed until at least
3 p.m.

A K9 unit began inspecting inside the tunnel shortly before 2:30
p.m. <[>Detroit fire and police officials are on the scene, but
Detroit hazmat is not on the scene because they don't appear to
be needed, Detroit fire spokesman Chief Kwaku Atara said.

At this point, the Detroit Police Department has only requested
that a fire engine and EMS rig be on stand by at the scene, he
said.

A spokesman for the Windsor police could not be immediately
reached for comment.
