What about MCMC in mirt? Do you think it is a good idea??? IRTPro 3.0 can do it!

"SSI, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of the 64-bit version of IRTPRO 3 for Windows

2)
MCMC (Monte-Carlo Markov-Chain) estimation.

·         The emphasis on this fourth estimation method is as diagnostic tool to identify problems in model specification.

·         The MCMC module is enhanced with graphical representations of autocorrelations, trace plots, running means, and display of posterior densities.

·         The MCMC examples folder contains a number of illustrative examples based on real data."

That's a strange feature to add to IRTPRO, most people will find very little use in it over and above the existent algorithms (diagnostics was the reasoning to add it? Even that seems strange to me....).

Nevertheless, I don't think adding that type of estimation to mirt is even necessary, because R already has much better MCMC support for numerous basic and advanced IRT models (see MCMCpack, sirt, etc) or just simply roll your own with general purpose software like stan, JAGS, R2WinBUGS, and so on. You could even write MCMC in raw R code, which I have done in the past (it's just slower).
