Hello Dr. Chalmers,
Thanks again for all the hard work you are doing and for the great R packages!

I am using your mirtCAT package for running a CAT. However, I have a weird problem - in two extreme scenarios the exam won't stop at my stopping rule (standard error of 0.3 or below) - if the respondent is responding all correct answers, or if they are responding all wrong answers - in these two cases the standard error reaches an asymptote around 0.5-0.6 and won't go below that.

What do you suggest is happening? How would you deal with that?

Thanks again!
Tom.

Hi Tom,

We're going to need more information to determine the exact problem, but if you were to use your model with mirt's fscores() function and pass the problematic response vectors to the response.pattern input due you see a SE estimate less than your cutoff? It's possible that the test just isn't accurate for those extreme response observations and so there's never enough information to terminate the CAT after exhausting the item bank. If that's not the case, please provide a reproducible example of this for us to diagnose the issue. Thanks.

Phil
