Hey all,

Is there anyone out there with a full desktop running on MINIX? - I'm thinking about trying to tackle the WWW browser problem. There has got to be a way to get a more modern browser running on MINIX. I have LYNX in the terminal, but if others have desktops running, which I'd like to hear what you guys are running as far as Window Managers and desktops go - I want to do some research and see if I can get IceCat (FireFox) running or something like it. I've tackled problems like this in my early GNU/Linux days back in 96, so if could compile X11 and KDE 1 in the old days, I'm pretty sure I can figure something out.

So is anyone running a full desktop like KDE? Or a window manager like FVWM or something?

I have what I consider a full WM, window manager, FVWM , I wouldn't want a DE like KDE,GNOME, etc ,..so have not even tried.
There are some more screen shots of my"desktops" here: http://www.parrotsandopenbsd.org/myforum/viewtopic.php?pid=93#p93
If you want to take a look, feel free, I was not able to insert more images here,... W3M is the browser I use, I do consider what I have a full
desktop, that is to say I can perform any tasks I want from it,.. others might not consider it a full desktop.
Some others have successfully compiled Dillo, it is a more complete browser then w3m or lynx,  W3m does have a way to display images,
I have not been able to get Dillo to work, but you might be able to, others have been able to.
In this thread :  https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/minix3/FIhNt3tRoFg  there are details.
I also did try compiling Netsurf, and Seamonky, but with no success.

Hi,

As Garry mentioned, you can get dillo work but as a next step I wouldn't go further than midori. The source can be downloaded at:

I have it on my NetBSD desktop and I've not run into any trouble yet when using it except it's WebGL implementation but it can be turned on/off if it does not happen to work.

Best regards,

As something in between dillo and webkit-using browsers, there's netsurf.
