buildcraft crashing on interfaces

So I've been stuck on this one for awhile. I want to teach Buildcraft to my minecraft groups, but the client keeps crashing when I open interfaces for certain blocks (so far the filler and the refinery cause it to crash after opening their interfaces for more than a second or two). I've tried this with different versions of buildcraft and different java updates. Any help would be appreciated!

This crash report comes from Buildcraft 6.3.1 (the version that's in the edu online mods launcher) and java version 8 update 73

I did, I thought about that after posting. I removed all the mods except Buildcraft and removed faithful, but that didn't solve the problem.

What language are you using in Minecraft?
That is what the part of code* your Minecraft is crashing on, is all about. 
If it is not English (US), try setting it to English (US) and try to reproduce the crash.

I will notify the Buildcraft developers if this problem hasn't been resolved in the latest Buildcraft.

*I know that that deobfuscated reference is over three years old, so "line 143" can not really be pinpointed.

I'm using US English. French, UK English, and Pirate Speak all caused the same crash.

My java skills are subpar at best, so I don't really understand that code.

Hmm, in that case it must have something to do with that specific version of Buildcraft after all.
I did not find evidence of anyone else having this problem.

Could you try the 6.3.7 or 6.4.18 version of Buildcraft found here instead?
I am afraid that, if we go to an even higher Buildcraft version, it may not be compatible with McEdu's Forge version anymore.

Still no luck. It seems to crash when you hover over one of the slots in the interface. Is it trying to display text that's causing a java malfunction? Could this be an issue related to a java update?

Definitely not a Java bug. It throws an exception, like it's supposed to when something is not coded securely enough.

It is trying to translate text using a piece of code from Minecraft and that is

And does Buildcraft 7.0.26 work at all with McEdu?
If that doesn't work, try this. I made it especially for you. (I could not reproduce your bug with the official version of Buildcraft, so I guess you should test this for yourself.)

No wonder that that causes a NullPointerException. If you don't know what a null value is: It's a "this value has not value" value. It's not a String with a length of 0, but a String that has no length at all.

Hmm, so some further testing is showing that this is an interface issue again. The interface works fine until you hover over the top 4 boxes next to the fill type.

Since you were using my "attempt-at-a-fix version", I am going to assume that you already tried Buildcraft 7.0.26 and that that didn't work for you. (If you did not, please still try to before trying any of my next attempts at a fix.)
Since it is still crashing on the same NullPointerException, I am assuming that the "null value" I was talking about earlier, is not the one causing it directly.

It may be asking for the String's first character, which would return null, since I changed the original null to an empty String.
This (same link, other file) would fix that, however, the premisse is a long shot, so if it works, we're just being lucky.

I am going to dig deeper into this and see if I can find out what the exact function of those "Minecraft String Translate" methods is.
That is going to take me a day up to a week as I have a pretty busy study schedule.

7.0.26 isn't working with any of the interfaces. Unfortunately, the latest fix isn't working on the filler, but everything else seems to be operational. I noticed on this one that the interfaces sometimes display a comma when you hovered over a box, if that helps. I can also do a screenshot video of the problem if that would help diagnose what's happening. At the very least, your fix makes buildcraft usable for us, even if the filler doesn't work. Thanks again for all your help, we really appreciate it!

That 'comma' that you are seeing is exactly what I changed: I changed "" in the code into "." .

Like I said, I'll look into where the other crash could be rooted, but not today.
I'll let you know if I find something.
