Hey folks, so we seem to have a problem with bullying here. The bully, Gabby, is clearly identified as such (reference link on demand) but the question of how to deal with this problem has not been solved yet. I'm sure we all agree that this is not nice and most unwanted. The bully has been warned several times but to no effect. We are all grown-up adults here, so I'm sure will be able to work out a solution that we will all be happy with. So come on folks, I want to hear your suggestions .... Let's get it done and over with! :-)

Thank you for the compliment. :-) But I think we should really be starting to not use others as a pretext to not speak for ourselves and what we perceive individually. I believe there is nothing more constant than the change. So fear not the Bully! Speak out what YOU see and then let's see how we will come to find a new solution. How can anyone talk about Allan being bullied by Gabby. She is just expressing what she thinks. Nothing wrong in that , Allan is known to speak his mind from time to time. He has been quite voluble in my case and that of Andrew, I didn't hear anyone talk about Allan's bullying nature, so how can anyone say anything now. I say let Gabby speak her mind and let Allan bear it as I and Andrew tolerated it for such a long time.

As for Gabby she really does not bother me and if she is  i will ask for advice privately.  I was called on the carpet..  hopefully I stopped sometimes you just don't realize you have gone far.

PS - don't tell Ms Thiede about the Gabbsie thing.  We'd have to argue for years on whether it was a discriminatory diminutive, term of endearment inappropriate and diminutive or part of the creation of a rabbit hole fairy tale about a young girl's decision to reject silk hair ribbons and patronising versions of gender.

So far we have identified Gabby as the main bully and now after some evidence and further allegations, Allan admits to being part of the problem.

Oh  sigline  it may take a little digging but you can find it on the setting section of Gmail it will be under signature. Then all you have to do is write it out and save it.. it should appear on all your email or that address.  It is for electronic signing of email.

Sense at last Facil.  I use an effigy of Gabbsie in the dogs' attack training.  So far, as with large Alsatians, they always put me between them and the pedestal Gabby is always on in my mind.  Given Max talks to squirrels and deer, and Zak is anyone's for a dog treat, I should use something less intimidating than the formidable Frau Thiede.  I had 1001 uses of a dead cat in mind, but in the end the Gabbeffigy has its use in guarding the food cupboard.  Not that I'm saying our currently disappeared star was an old scarecrow, one understands. It's more a diversity thing on everyone having their uses.  She does not deter the cat - but then that's one tough lady.

Our new sunshine girl, no doubt an elevated case of high rocking-horse non-bullying in the surfing community, is so sweet as to not need Gabby-presence for her morality to shine upon we unworthies.  I have Sherlock on the case and he seems to think Hope is the main suspect in Gabby's kidnapping, though he was last seen with his magnifying glass following rocking horse droppings up a blind alley with an opium den at then end.

Bullying a bully is not the answer to stop a bully from bullying. Nor is mobbing the best way to stop bullying. I agree with RP. I do not think that Gabby is bullying Allen.
This is a moderated group. In one post a while back, Molly one of our moderators admitted that she enjoyed people having a verbal fight. Niel our other moderator has voiced his opinion that it is quite OK to get off topic. I think that is the problem. This moderated group is really not moderated at all. I think that the moderators  beleive that their main or only job is to censor anyone they think is spamming this group.

When I open a discussion on Bitcoin, and I get a reply that i am not original or I have selfish motives for supporting Bitcoin, or that I do not know what I am talking about, the moderators should step in and remind that responder that their reply is "off topic" and urge the discussion back to the relevant topic. The moderation should definitely not discourage any member from discussing anything they want to discuss. When I am told by a moderator that it is not possible to have a meaningful discussion with me because I keep changing my point of view, it clearly shows arrogance and ignorance. But it is not bullying. The best way to deal with arrogance and ignorance and bullying is to ignore it.

I think that if the moderators start to recognize provocation, they will not be themselves provocative and they will start to encourage  exchange of opinion in this forum even if they do not agree with the opinions.

My reasoning is that a superior feeling is not needed towards the others, but it is needed towards myself to tell myself that I can do better. Do better for me and do better for the world. As human beings we are all equal, only some tend to forget or draw separating lines  ... which is why I want us to stand up and stop the discrimination!

I am partially with Andrew on this one. The thing that hurts an oppressor/bully the most is being ignored.   For me personally I have always liked the challenge of using a reverse engineered argument to counter bullying.  If someone calls me, for example, "A Christian fundamentalist" I would say "thanks".  

I hate heavy handed moderating.  Once you go down the path of selective censorship it is a bottomless pit.  

I have said this before and will repeat it until people understand, that we must give others the "right to be ignorant".

The moderation issue certainly plays a key role in our attempt to resolve the problem with bullying. Thank you for giving us further insights by viewing at the difficulties from this angle. It is absolutely unacceptable that members feel they need to plant seeds of morality in their sigline, or feel discouraged to continue with their topic argumentation due to the moderator's misinterpretation of a healthy discourse. Dealing with arrogance, ignorance and bullying by means of ignorance is only an option for those on the top of the food chain. Only they profit from this make-believe of ignorance being a bliss. We need to speak up for our right to not be pushed below the bottom line with our issues! We should not allow the moderators to profit from provocation, but we want to have moderators who value all members equally and treat them with equal respect!

I think we should all adopt Hope's sigline on the grounds it looks like people having a great party.  The words are ;largely irrelevant and somewhat offensive to those of us who stood up against discrimination long ago.  The could be the false ravings of any old fascist or neo-liberal these days, or come, in all seriousness, from those newsrooms where everyone is pretty, no one is disabled, working class or critical.  I understand why someone as young and fresh as Ms Sunshine would want to use Allan as a role model and add some bright crayon to give that cool young people love so, but I have been thinking if we all copied it our eyes would get used to not being bothered by it quicker.

It is, Andrew, almost impossible to get anyone here to exchange ideas.  I would enjoy the group much more if we did and it is possible to think more good contributors would stay without such as GabbyAllanGate or various grumpy responses.  Of course, we could ban everyone, which seemed to be Orn's desire at one time, or put everyone on moderation and check all scripts, though we'd need a fee for that, and I wouldn't do this type of censorship on principle.  In fact, as Hope implies in the now hidden line of her siggy (I hope you have awarded yourself several of your golden stars for the effort), there is way too much structural violence concerning language as it is.  We might take a closer look at why we are so dull, boring and lacking in tolerance.

I see Hope is straightening some of our remaining crew out and wait for the denouement or unmasking at the penny drop.

Our Moderators are exceptionally even handed and do not need to be changed and neither do their policies.
In this group topics have always wandered  that is part of the art of discourse.. it is also puts the creative element in. Individual have their problems and from what I have seen it is mostly from their not getting their own way..  kind of childish isn't it.

In this group topics have always wandered  that is part of the art of discourse.. it is also puts the creative element in. Individual have their problems and from what I have seen it is mostly from their not getting their own way..  kind of childish isn't it.

Penny droppings correlating with Bitcoin mistrust was almost worth waiting for.  The punch-line rate in Kierkegaard is actually higher.  I just can't see Gabbsie-Alter as a blonde, probable cross-dresser - or have I taken the wrong rub?  Not that you'll find me holding anything against cross-dressers, Hope - I'm not prejudiced in that way, rather just not structurally vulnerable.  And I don't like clothes much, hardly a matter worth much thought.  Perhaps wearing them is a form of discrimination, in the way you single out the mute people?

Love you Gabby - hang on in Hope.  I have a rescue planned, but am working on how you will come of think you did it for yourself, rather than feeling indentured to some Attic tragedy hero you'd have to kill for lending a helping hand.  Once I've reworked Fermat's third theorem in terms of the maths known in his time, I'll give that some thought.  .

Ah well, what is an amusing tickle? Is the resulting laughter necessarily a sign of joy? No, it isn't. It can feel much worse and have much worse effects than an annoying itch.
