Hi Andrew;

The survey doesn't pertain to me as it is a bit outside of my sphere of interests.
However, if there were group/individual classes to make a simple project (trivets like the forge area does or nameplates like Larry does with the Tormach for example), I could see taking a class just for fun.  Happy to pay to offset material costs and add a little to the area's funds.
Outside of that, I wouldn't foresee using it much personally.  If the class caused me to take a liking to it, maybe I'd use it after.
That's the input I can offer if it helps.

- James

Q1: a:(marbles, beads, other lamp-work) and x: stained glass, fused glass

Q2:  Lamp-working?c  Fused glass? bigger - more than 12"

Q3: a

Q4: b

Q5: d(hot) e(cold)

Q6:  c(hot) d(cold)

Q7: my house, classes at a glass store

Q8: a

Q9: I live out of state.  If I'm there at the right time? 4-5hours

Q10:  $0 (for glass blowing stuff)

COMMENTS: I'm more interested in a glass-cutting station for stained or fused glass, but have had fun with lamp-worked beads and marbles in the past.

Currently, I have very little interest in glass blowing.  I have some (very basic) equipment for lamp-working, and a microwave kiln for glass fusing.  The kiln has a very small footprint, (3" diameter, perhaps,) but it works...

Hi,

Q1: B,C
Q2: A-F
Q3: A-C
Q4: D
Q5: E
Q6: E
Q7:B,C
Q8: For Neon, I have burners and glass to build a studio, nothing for glass blowing or lampworking
Q9: I can be made available as time permits to contribute
Q10: 100 and neon supplies/tool if a neon lab is of interest

COMMENTS:
Neon: I was a neon design instructor at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) for 20+ years.  If we wanted, we can build a neon lab and provide instruction for members and non/members.  To do it right, I estimate approx 10K startup for a neon lab (retail). Designated space required for bending tubes, processing pieces and materials storage. I can provide a parts list, etc. as required.
Glassblowing:  Space and cost is the biggest concern.  I have been apart of building 2 glass blowing studios.  Decisions on weather to use electric vs. natural gas will need to be determined.  at UCSD we burned about 10K cubic feet of Natural gas a month.  Glass furnaces need to be monitored, and restocked on a regular basis.  We will need space for main furnace, glory hole (reheating furnace), a garage (small reheating oven for goblet stems, etc.) Annealing oven, benches, etc.etc.
Lampworking: Can use natural gas oxygen or propane and oxygen for torches, need an annealing oven, and dedicated space etc etc.

All of these programs would need the capability to receive materials shipped to the space (not sure if we can do that now)

I can be made available to consult as required.

Excited to participate

Bret

For reference,

At our current rates from We energies, 10Kcuf of gas would cost the space an additional ~$60 a month.

That’s about double the consumption of our forge, I’m personally surprised, I thought it would’ve been higher.

Dan, we may want to estimate higher gas use due to the more amateur skill level of the prospective users of a glasswork area, myself included.
